Show alm artim fr tim by vemon vernon W shields well here we are in old wy oming the fly fishing is positive iv wonderful and I 1 am having the time of my life I 1 in catching more fish than we can eat and they are real fish too not like the min in utah on the way up here we stopped at Fre freeman emans s cafe in evanston for breakfast the young lady that waited on us asked where we were from and I 1 proudly replied too ele utah she smiled and said tell versal shields maz gollaher george and jim gowans hello for me she said she went to school with them at logan last winter her name was jean smith and she was very nice looking how in the world do you suppose she knew we were from she seemed to guess it from the i start T the d day a y a after we arrived here I 1 phe ha happened en e d 0 on n to a little stream that is just loaded loaded with brook and rain bow how t trout r ut they ranged from 8 inches to three and four pounds and when they re feeding they will sock about any kind of fly the brooks seemed to prefer the bi visible and the rainbows go for my own pattern I 1 tied especial ly for the provo river I 1 caught a quit before I 1 got the limit of 20 twenty because sixteen was plenty more than we could eat to day thursday I 1 went out for a couple of hours and caught twelve the trolling and fishing from boats is not so hot but I 1 waded out in the lake last evening and did a little fly casting I 1 had one heck of a lot of fun when I 1 first went out I 1 put on a big bushy fly which I 1 had dreamed up it looked more like a bale of hay than a fly but on my first cast a big boy smacked it and headed off for the middle of the lake he ile was so big I 1 could n nt t begin to turn him fact is he t even hesitate he walked oft off with both my fly and leader I 1 tied into two more big boys but they were too much for my light outfit I 1 did take a few nice brook trout t though h trout we e a are r e camped in a very full spot on the north shore of hall hal f moon lake the forest service has provided some nice camp stoves and tables and fire wood for the stoves however our camp is not too exclusive because we have a tribe Califor Californi maites aites near by there yowling kids and chatter are some what of a pain in the neck the weather is perfect although in the early mornings and evenings it Is pretty cold there are a few deer flies and mosquitoes not enough to bother a hearty 99 outdoors man like me half moon lake is exactly miles tooele thoele and ex capt from pinedale Pin edale to the lake the roads are excellent they put utah s roads to shame I 1 had plan ned to pack in to some of the more remote areas but the fishing here Is plenty good enough for me and there is no need to go farther be sides a seventeen mile trip on horseback and I 1 probably would nt need these nice benches that are provided for by the forest ice brother in law mr max dean and wife were scheduled to arrive today but so far they have not put in their appearance on saturday claude atkin his wife and mr and mrs atkin are supposed to join us I 1 hope to show them the kind of fishing they dream about and in these outdoor magazines I 1 guess youre you re anxious to know the name of this little stream where the fly fishing Is so good well I 1 don t know the name of it and I 1 t tell you it if I 1 did any of the lakes and streams in this vicinity are good fishing at this time of year I 1 am spoiled for any future fishing in utah of course that t mean I 1 wont go fishing in utah any more in all respects this little vacation is 19 about the best I 1 ve ever been on there theres s something wrong its too perfect good fishing good weather good roads good eats and good drinks what more could a guy ask for |
