when we should have stayed in bed took place in the cyprus gym last friday n one when the gun s DL ending the game cyprus boasted of the first win over the tooele thoele buffaloes by the over whelming score of 42 20 the f quarter was a tight defensive b battle bittle ittle with both teams keyed up and playing a tight gabie tooele thoele managed to stay pret ty close to the r impaling pirates thanks to three charity tosses and the per od ended 5 3 in f favor avor of the blue and gold cold clad in the second period the roof caved in on the loop leading buffs and the pirates led by dave coffey and stan johnson beat a steady tattoo on the hoop to rack un ut 17 points while holding the buffs to 4 points A field goal by charlie lee and a pair of free throws when the gun ended the first half cyprus had a huge 22 7 margin Everl everything thing went wrong it was more of the same in the third and fourth periods and it seemed that no matter what the buffs tried or how hard they play ed everything they did went wrong and while lady luck was frowning on the buffs she seemed to take special delight in touch ing the pirates with her magic wand as everything they did turn ed out perfectly not that we mean to infer er that the pirates victory was lucky far from it but it just the buffs night remembering glen horse rupp s 28 points in their first meet ing coach Su minner hale assign ed boyce watching most of the game from the bench because of illness the pirates could roam up and down the floor almost as they pleased stan johnson played the part of the ball hawk and set up the plays for jack fraser and dave coffey these three boys split the string for 33 points lee leathern leatham outstanding for tooele thoele there was no ex auses or no alibis alibi s offered visibly weakened by the loss of hamilton and iwami they literally fought their hearts out but it was just no soap charl chad e lee and dale leatham turned in the best games for tooele thoele with bantom billy griffith going like a whirling der vish during his stay in the fracas now the big question in tooele thoele is what is wrong with the buffs and what happened over in mag na first of all there s nothing wrong its it s almost humanly impossible to expect a team of high school kids to go through this league without suffering at least one or two set backs the fact t that hat coach clarke johnsen has S steered his charges through eight consecutive victories is ample proof that he has a fine cage squad under his wing and just because they took it on the chin from a really inspired and good cyprus quintet mean that they arent aren t a powerful club coach johnsen praised then the law of averages just caught up with them and like all teams of athletes they had an off night when nothing they tried seemed to do any good coach johnsen has taken a young gang of kids and has mold ed together a team that depends upon close team work and fine co ordination ord nation to collect their wins the team is dependant on no one individual for its success but when two of the vital cogs in that machinery watch the game from the bench because they are not up to par thanks to a recent 11 ness it just doesn doean t make sense that the team is going to function as smoothly murray vs tooele thoele friday this friday is the season finale the powerful and vastly improve ed murray Smelt entes rites invade the
