tooele thoele buffaloes ran and passed the r way to a decisive 26 6 victory over the game but out manned grantsville Grants ville cowboys last friday afternoon at the buffaloes stamping grounds it was just a case of too much of evereth ng but gameness as the purple and white team scored twice in the second quarter and once in both the third and fourth periods to collect their sweetest victory of the very successful gridiron season led by gangling glen bones hamilton at left end daring dale leatham at quarterback and crashing charl e lee at fullback who turned in all state perform ances these three bivs proved the difference between the two well coached elevens GrAts ville kicked off to tooele thoele to get the slam bang battle under way tooele thoele was unable to collect a 1st down and was forced to punt to arlo fawson who returned the kick to his own 44 yard line aid ed by two penalties the cowboys traveled down to the toodie tooele 10 yard stripe and it looked like they were going all the way down to the tall grass however the talented forward wall of the buffaloes buff aloes dug in and held liew the cowboys for four downs taking over the ball on their own 2 yard line where they started a drive that d it stop until they crossed the final str stripe i pe leatham called f for or 8 running plays all good for yardage be fore lore he faded back and fired a pass to halfback timmer mckend nek rick good for 11 yards and a first down on the cowboys 45 yard line hamilton scores first charlie lee bud conlon and chuck gillespie took turns carry ing the pigskin and traveled down to the 30 where leatham again passed this time to bones hamil harrill ton N ho made an almost imps sible catch and then went the rest of the way to score tooele thoele s first touchdown the attempted place kick for the extra point was no good as the grantsville Grants ville line men crashed through and blocked the kick for a few minutes the game set tied down as each team traded punts with tooele thoele getting the best of the punting duel between lee and arid fawson grantsville Grants ville got a potential touchdown march under way starting from their own 15 yard line arlo fawson billy ratcliffe bob sandberg and rollie anderson al terna ted the ball carrying chores between them as they picked up 3 successive first downs and travel ed down to the tooele thoele 47 at this point little bud conlon intercepted fawson awson s pass and returned to 10 yards to his own 39 yard stripe be fore he was downed conlon on a wide end run went for 11 more yards and a first down on the mid field marker lee add ed 2 more yards a backfield in motion penalty cost the buffs 5 yards but once again the passing combination of leatham to ham ilton caught the grantsville Grants ville de bense off guard and hamilton rack ed up his second T D for tooele thoele I 1 I 1 what looked to be an attempted place kick for the extra point fool ed everyone and instead of kick ing leatham passed once more to hamilton for the extra point and tooele thoele was out in front 13 0 grantsville Grants ville roared back as rol lie anderson took the kick lack off on the goal line and raced all the way down grants ville 37 where fawson had kicked out of bounds charlie lee benti went for 3 yards and then passed to end loren dunn who was downed lust just 3 yards short of the goal line on the fourth down lee rammed through the center of the line from the one yard stripe for tooele thoele s third T D the kick was no ab nb go good d but the buffs had a 19 0 lead the cowboys started a T D march of their own then when fawson returned the kick off 14 yards to his own 24 yard line billy ratcliffe ripped off 15 yards good for a 1st down on the cow boy boys s 41 yard line fawson traveled for another first down on the too ele 47 these two roaring cow pokes took turns carrying the ball slashing and crashing their way down to the tooele thoele IS 18 yard line then fawson passed to ratcliffe for the tally kent callister s kick was wide of the goal posts but grantsville Grants ville had scored and it was now 19 6 in the charlie lee took matters into his own capable hands and personally escorted his team mates dornfield down field for the final score lee took the kick lack off on his own 10 yard line and returned it 21 yards then he roared through the line for 8 more chuck gillespie ad ded 9 yards and a first down on the tooele thoele 48 yard line grantsville Grants ville stopped charlie on his next try but it only served to enrage this hard running fullback as he again took the ball on a hand off from leatham and raced 11 yards before he was stopped leatham passed to dunn good for 8 yards conlon got 1 yard and lee got the 1st down on the cow boys 28 yard line then lee 1 ered red his passing arm and passed to hamilton for the score Le leatham athams s kick was good as it hit the up right and bounced through making t the score 26 6 the balance of the game was played deep in grantsville Grants ville ter atory as lee broke loose for the longest run of the day a 32 yard sprint which took him down to the grantsville Grants ville 34 yard line before he t was stopped it was the wildest run of the season as almost every cowpoke had a shot at lee before t he was finally snowed under j coach poured in the sec ond and third stringers at this t point in the game and grantsville Grants ville t let them score hunter misses game f injuries played havoc with the Grants villes cowboys chances of victory as their star end les hun f ter missed the game because of an injury to his knee the game j was rough and rugged all the way not dirty football but tough hard bruising football that took its toll of players these injuries were felt more by the cowboys because they just t have the replacements eol rol e lie anderson kay jefferies Jef fenes fred t f hale and bob sandberg all missed 4 some action tofele tooele s tackle fay 0 mcfarland and halfback timmer mckendrick also were hurt and while they returned to the field they also missed considerable ac tion for tooele thoele glen bones ham ilton played his best game of the year as he scored three touch downs and one point after touch down to account for 39 19 of tooele thoele s 26 points bones defensive play was yas nothing short of sensational s t me after time he threw the cowboy ball carriers for losses dale leatham quarterback was almost as outstanding as he hand led his team like i t master threw two T D pisses passes I 1 pass for point after touchdown and kicked one extra point charlie lee carried the ball 12 times collecting 74 yards scored one touchdown and passed for one more bud conlon intercepted two pass es and ran the ball well for a total of 49 yards as his contribution to tooele thoele s win ratcliffe outstanding player the shining lights in grants ville vilie s losing cause was billy rat cliffe who averaged 74 yards ev cry ery time he carried the ball and that little truck horse for work arlo fawson it was this bombina tion that gave the loyal grantsville Grants ville rooters their only cause to rejoice as they teamed up to score the cowboys six points co capt rollie anderson was dangerous every minute he was in the game and his loss was a terrific blow to the cowboys up on the line kent callister at tackle claude parkinson arkinson at cen ter and kay jefferies Jef ferles at
