Show agriculture UTAH STATE EXTENSION SERVICE HOME ECONOMICS farma 8 U S deft dept of agri utah state aarl college and county comm contra as ss on Loo as ng by elsie green NOVEMBER 1 TO 8 IS NATIONAL 4 H achievement WEEK tooele thoele county too is interested in celebrating national 4 H A achievement chie week which ends on november 8 to start the state wide celebia tion stanley C farnsworth wrote an article on achievement week for the salt lake tribune include ed with this article was a picture pic of two 4 H leaders who had each cimpl completed e ted m more 0 re than 25 years year S of service in the 4 H work we are proud of this picture because the wife of our county agent mrs A E smith is one of the ladies fort enough to win the emerald clover in our county we are planning to hold a number of achievement programs in the near future at these programs all boys and girls who have hav e completed their years work will be awarded a certificate in recognition of this fact also at this time cash awards willbe will be given to the fo lowing groups and individuals for their entries in the state fair thimble club under the direction of mary brande the thrifty Thim balinas with martina duffin as leader and rhea L vance s busy switchers chers from tooele thoele and the egg and I 1 club under genevieve shields and wanda rae nash will receive group awards the following girls will receive individual awards in cash yvonne bryan maurine bevan donna stewart norma hector hazel bryan annette bondeli ida mae brough marilyn bird joan pascoe dorothy dillard carol gustaveson and maryanne thompson all from tooele thoele and betty lou johnson grantsville Grants ville in addition to the achievements mentioned above we are thrilled to have three clubs in the county which have achieved comple tion these clubs are the thimble club whose leader is mary brande the happy seven led by mearl and roberta of tooele thoele and the seven up club of grantsville Grants ville led by elsie green mr david sharp jr state 4 H leader stated recently that a club charter could be obtained for all clubs who had of their members enrolled complete yes a year of 4 H work corn com plated is really an achievement that a club member and a club leader can be proud of the 4 H workers of tooele thoele coun ty including both members and leaders are looking forward to bigg ernd and better achievements as I 1 the 4 H work goes on pledging their heads to clear thinking their hearts to greater loyalty their hands to larger service and their health to better living for their club their community and their country HEAD OFF THE FALL MOLT in most flocks of early pullets the fall molt causes considerable trouble molting cannot be wholly y overcome but the following sug gest ions will help 1 turn lights on using any tern desired be sure pullets have plenty of grain when they get oft off the roost 2 feed a wet mash or pellets as a noon lunch make the mash only crumbly wet and not too slop py use either milk or water for moistening milk is preferred 3 put alfalfa hay in pen for birds to scratch and eat feed only what the birds want and supply it fresh every day or so FALL COLDS most flocks of pullets will show signs of some cold shortly after they are housed and start to lay A little extra Vi tamine A and D will help correct this condition cordi tion if given early before a real siege of roup sets in increase the vita mines A and D putting 3 table spoons of offish fish oil 1000 to about one gallon of gram grain per each birds daily mix oil thor hughly with the grain allowed to set an hour or so before feeding feed the oil treated grain on top of the mash once each day for a week or ten days and then re duce the amount to one tablespoon for each birds in a week or two the oil treatment may be dis continued boning meat saves food locker space from 30 to 40 percent of your cold storage locker space can be saved if the meat is boned the meat can also be easier wrapped and can be wrapped tighter thus storing better than bone in cuts ground meat does not store as well as steaks or roasts pork saus age if frozen and stored should have all the seasoning ingredients mixed with the meat except salt clayton and daughter jolyn drove to torrey tuesday and returned with his sister mrs velma rymer and four children who will vis t here with her par ants mr and mrs M M |
