Show Ballroom Dancing is a Growing Trend by Angie Walker The Grovecrest Ballroom Concert was held April 5 in the Pleasant Grove Junior High auditorium. au-ditorium. The Grovecrest Ballroom Ball-room Team, consisting of 4th through 6th graders, the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove Junior High Ballroom Ball-room Team and soloists performed per-formed for family and friends. The Level 1 class, directed direct-ed by Angie Lowe, began the performance with a Swing to "Beach Dance." The colorful color-ful costumes and bright beach towels added to the liveliness of the number. The choreography choreogra-phy was fun and innovative and the audience was treated with a solo by Trevonn Oliver. BYU Freshman Casey Treu and his partner Rachel Pope,, from Timpview- High, captured the attention of audience au-dience members with a dramatic dra-matic Paso. Casey's cape action ac-tion brought cheers from the crowd. Following their thrilling thrill-ing number, the 4th grade did a Cha-cha to "Corazon." The audience clapped along and went wild when they performed per-formed a ripple. With the girls dressed in polka dot skirts and the boys in red, blue and green ties, the junior ju-nior high team danced a Swing to "Curly Shuffle." The lifts and clever choreography was impressive. Under the direction direc-tion of Cheryll Treu, this is the first year the junior high has offered a ballroom program. . , Tyler . Wilson, a PGHS student, and Gioia Reni, a Timpview student, wowed the crowd with their sharp Tango to "Baby, Baby, Baby-O." They gave the audience a good laugh or two with their come-dic come-dic routine and exit. Level 1 took the stage again to dance a Cha-cha to the song "Let's Get Loud." The performance was as colorful color-ful and energetic as the song they danced to. Once again the audience was treated with a solo by Jeremy Everett and the stunt performed by Daniel Rubio added to the ending as the team posed. For the finale, all dance groups came on stage one at a time and bowed. Following the number, Kennadie Austin presented Angie Lowe with flowers and a gift card from the elementary ballroom team. They also presented Steve Clark, a father, with a gift certificate cer-tificate for helping with the team throughout the year. The Grovecrest Ballroom Team competed in three team matches this year. At the Alpine Al-pine Team Match in January, they had two teams win silver and one team win gold. At the UVU Team Match they had one team place silver and one team place gold. Lastly, they competed at BYU and received gold, placing 4th overall. "We were really pleased with how hard the students worked to achieve the awards for the school," stated Angie.
