V ) 1 i - - ) i I V Y i by Angie Walker Matt Embley and Jeanie Wilson were recognized as "Extra Milers" at Pleasant Grove High School for April. Matt Embley teaches German, history and government govern-ment at the high school. Over the past several months, he has worked tirelessly tire-lessly getting PGHS prepared and ready for their visit from the Accreditation Team. Like everything else Matt is involved in-volved with, the project was done flawlessly and in a timely time-ly manner. Matt is a gifted teacher who instills the love of learning learn-ing in each student. A former student teacher said, "It was a privilege to be in his classroom class-room and watch him teach." He is a well loved and respected re-spected teacher, employee and friend. "Pleasant Grove High will always be proud to claim Matt as one of their own," stated Assistant Principal Princi-pal Kori Thomas. Mr. Embley was born in Nebraska, but he has lived in Orem since he was three years old. He is the sixth of 14 children chil-dren and never argues with any of them! Among Matt's earliest childhood memories he remembers being run over by the neighbor's car and living liv-ing to tell about it! Matt graduated from Orem High School, where he played soccer. Matt served a mission in Leipzig, Germany and grew to love the German language. After his mission, he took on several jobs, including includ-ing returning to his position posi-tion as manager at Chuck E. Cheese. He met his wife, Lindsey, while they both worked at Chuck E. Cheese. Matt still believes it was his "stellar" performance in "the mouse costume that persuaded persuad-ed Lindsey to date him. After getting married in 2002, Matt graduated from BYU with his Master's Degree De-gree in German Literature in 2006. Matt enjoys watching, playing, reading and talking talk-ing about sports. He loves spending time with his three children, Andrew, Madelyn, and Ashlyn, and he is a fantastic fan-tastic dad! He loves coaching coach-ing Andrew's soccer team, reading with his kids and playing the Wii. Matt is a great team player, play-er, easy to work with, and one of the most dependable and selfless educators. Jeanie Wilson is currently cur-rently in her second year at PGHS as an administrator. She taught and coached for 13 years at Hillcrest High School, was head coach for the BYU Women's Basketball team for five years, taught at her Alma Mater San Deguito High School for one year, taught at ALLC now known as East Shore High School for eight years, and was an administrator at Mountain View High School for six years. When Jeanie was in her junior high Spanish class, Jeanie's teacher would ask the class "Que hora es?" Jeanie, being the smart alec that she is, piped up and said, "Time to go home!" Multiple warnings later, she ended up sitting in the hall outside the classroom. After a few minutes of sitting in the hallway, the principal came walking down the hall. He asked, "Miss Wilson, what are you doing in the hall?" She proceeded to tell him her side of the story of what happened. The principal asked her to come to his office. Jeanie confidently followed him. In the office, the principal told her that for her punishment she had a choice: the paddle (a board two feet long, three inches thick and has three holes) or three days detention. deten-tion. Jeanie wouldn't hear of staying after school so she chose the paddle. 1 ' - ... . iiiwh in i n) n Matt Embley and Jeanie Wilson were recognized as "Extra Milers" at Pleasant Grove High School for April. Jeanie's mother told the principal, "If she chose the paddle, then let her have it." Jeanie walked out of the office in pain, but decided that a couple of minutes of pain was much better than staying after school. Jeanie Wilson is driven by passion in whatever the task may be. She won't take on anything unless she knows she can give it everything she's got. She is willing to take chances. Jeanie has always al-ways loved people. She loves to be around kids and find ways to motivate them to succeed suc-ceed in all aspects of life. Whether it was coaching ,her son's 12-year-old basketball basket-ball team to a championship, winning the WAC championship champion-ship while the head coach at BYU, harassing students to finish their work so they could graduate, or motivating a team to not go down in the record book for the greatest margin of defeat in Stanford history (which they avoided this feat by one point!), she loves to be in the trenches with kids and people, working hard to succeed suc-ceed in every little detail that life has to offer. "Yes, I can" is the motto she will forever live by and one that she will influence anybody to believe once they have worked closely with her! Jeanie is dedicated to her job and her students and that is what makes her an exceptional excep-tional educator and administrator. |
