On a coolish evening, the Vikings defense played their best game of the season by keeping the Hawks rushing to just 142 yards. In the first quarter, the Hawks ran only 7 plays compared to the Vikings 22 plays. The Vikings started by scoring on their second possession after senior defensive back Quin Newbold intercepted an Alta pass just minutes into the game. Pleasant Grove ate up the clock on several running and pass plays which ended with a 4 yard blast up the middle by our junior running back Cooper Caldwell. Winston Sorhaitz added the PAT. At the end of the first quarter, the score was Alta G 7. In this quarter the Hawks ran only 7 plays compared to the Vikings 22 plays. The second quarter had both teams score. Mr. Sorhaitz added another PAT and at the half way point of the game it was all tied up 14-1- 4. With time running out and the Vikings holding the ball on their own 12 yard line, Alta chased our punter through the end zone giving Alta a safety and two points. Now with the score 21-1- 6, the Vikings could kick the ball out of their territory and give the defense some room to work. The defense held tight and PG got the ball back with 13.9 seconds left in the game. The final score PG 21-Al- ta 16. The loss does not affect Alta's State playoff standing, going to the playoffs in second place for Region 4. Lone Peak goes as the first place seed from the region. Jordan will go as the third place team.
