Jessica Hawkins is a straight A student and loves Biology and Science. She has received the Presidential Award for her educational excellence ' and is close to graduating with her Associ-ates Degree. After she gradu-ates from high school, Jes-sica's goal is to continue her education in Biology. Jessica is an amazing seamstress and produces pro-fessional looking clothing. She creates jewelry, loves to cook, and makes wonderful gifts for family and friends. No one can beat her at play-ing Nert. Jessica is kind to all and cares about others. She served as a special needs buddy for a year and contin-ues to assist the special needs students at PGHS as the peer tutor president. To this day there is a special needs girl who walks over a mile just to come knock on Jessica's door to see if she is home so she can talk to her. She always looks out for those in need. Jessica is a delight to her family and friends and they are so proud of her for all of her accomplishments and how she shares her tal-ents with everyone. Jessica is a model to follow as she sets goals and works hard to accomplish them. She will excel at anything she wants to do, uplifting others and being kind to those that she meets along the way. Jessica is loved by her family and many others. Cole Engeman is a fun, active senior. He has an older sister and two younger broth-ers. He absolutely loves vol-leyball. He is currently play-ing on the PGHS team and also on a Utah County travel-ing team. He is interning at PGHS in the Sports Medicine pro-gram and is planning on go-ing into medicine in college. Cole is hardworking and very responsible. He is a life guard at the Lindon pool usu-ally over the Flow Rider. He loves hanging out with his friends and being crazy. He loves sports of every kind and has played them as well. He loves In and Out Burger, Del Taco, the real beach, surf and sun, his mu-sic and ping pong. Cole is tenderhearted and kind and he always lets his younger brothers hang out with him. He works hard on his grades, is an Eagle Scout, and ex-cited for college. "Cole is a great all around young man and we are very lucky and proud of him and feel very blessed that he is in our fam-ily," said his mom. Jill Anderson was not present. In first grade, Derek Es-piri- tu struggled to read. He was a late bloomer and was at the bottom of his class. With the help of his mother, Derek was at the top of his class by the end of that year and hasn't stopped reading since. Derek delves into his inter-ests with all the fervor he can muster. Derek is a consistent A student and always on the High Honor Roll. In sixth grade he gar-nered the Hope of America award and in eighth grade was nominated by the Oak Canyon Junior High admin-istration and honored in the noted Who's Who. He re-ceived achievement awards in Science and Drama and scored in the top ten per-centile in the Iowa testing in reading. In ninth grade he played Aladdin in the play "Aladdin, Jr." and sang in the Men's Chorus and Encore Choir. Derek represented the school in the Science Demo Club. He made it his goal to get his Eagle at 13 and he did. He has played league baseball, basketball, and flag and tack-le football. Though small in stature, Derek has an indomi-table and unrelenting spirit. His coaches and teammates nicknamed him "Spirit" be-cause of the fortitude he showed during practices and on the field. Derek is currently a member of the Chamber Choir. Since last year, he's been in three musicals as part of a male ensemble as well as some minor roles. He's ac-tive in DECA at PGHS, com- - peting in the district, region-al and state competitions. He is currently the historian for the National Honor Society and is the class president of his seminary class. His moth-er stated, "What we are most proud of is he is a dedicated son, brother, and friend. As parents nothing brings us more joy and happiness than his devotion to his faith, fam-ily and his friends." Aubrey Herrera is the fifth child of six. She is al-ways happy with the most contagious laugh. Even the teachers at her elementary school loved listening to her laugh. Aubrey excels in every area. She always made good grades, had tons of friends, and loves the piano. Aubrey began piano in kindergarten and her par-ents never had to make her practice. She has won many awards and performed in many recitals. Aubrey plays the organ in her church and is trying to start her own business, playing the piano at weddings and receptions. She has always been respon-sible and passionate about her music. Aubrey has always been very athletic. She has danced on various dance teams throughout Utah but found her passion in soccer. She is extremely competitive yet maintains good sportsman-ship. Aubrey is currently playing on PGHS girls soccer team and for the Celtic Storm Club Soccer League. Academically Aubrey is very driven. She expects to excel in every subject that she takes. She studies hard and works long hours to ac-complish her goals. Aubrey is never afraid to ask ques-tions and find the help that she needs. She has received her Young Womanhood Rec-ognition award and she is committed to her beliefs and high moral standards. "We consider ourselves very for-tunate and greatly blessed to have her as part of our fam-ily," stated her father. Jonathan Charlesworth was born with the name of Jonathan Taylor. At the age of three he acquired the nick-name of Jack which was his great grandpa's nickname as well. Jonathan was born a cowboy. He came with boots on and slept in them every night when he was little. They are still his footwear of choice. He's in the FFA and having a great time learn-ing more about animals and horses. Jonathan also loves to snow ski. During the winter, he spends most of his Satur-days up at Park City at the national ability center where he is able to ski on a mono ski. He is a good student and works hard. He is very deter-mined. When he was younger and wanted to go play with friends, he would just wheel himself across the street and they didn't have ramps, so he would get but of his wheel-chair, crawl to the door and knock. He doesn't care what people think about him. His, favorite food is hot dogs and pizza and he is a boy who is very easy to get along with. He makes friends easy and people enjoy being around him because he has an ability to make them feel good about themselves. "We love him," his mother said. Oak Junior High School Aida Performance Moves Audience by Lexee Tabbutt and Aubrielle liockhill Drama students, directed by Katrina Scott, presented the musical, Aida, November through 13 at 7 p.m at Oak Canyon Junior High. The show was great success. "I felt sad, happy, passionate, a rainbow of emotions! It made mc want to do something!" stated freshman Anna Thulin. The play starred Tessa Norman as Aida, Bratlen Cunningham as Radames, and Mandy White as Amneris. The audience was awed by the actors' talent and dedication. "Oh my gosh! So much dedication! You have to put heart and focus into it. Its time consuming but if your doing what you love, it's worth ' it," remarked freshman Tessa Norman. "Aida", described as a "Timeless Love Story", is about the war between Egypt and Nubia. Aida, the Nubian princess is captured by the Egyptians. Amneris, female Pharaoh and Radames, the captain of the Egyptian Army, are arranged to be married. Aida and Radames fall in love and struggle to be together. Students in the performance practiced five days a week until five o'clock in order to make the show as wonderful as it was. Calce Gardner said. ''Everyday after school you needed to practice and dedicate and gain an understanding about die play." "Milers" continued from Page 4 inventiveness. She learns from her mistakes and changes things next time. Ruth won't be a teacher that gets in a rut because she ex-pands her horizon and learns from new teachers. Mrs. Dowling's class-room is always busy. You will see her students all over the school drawing and she is always looking for new and innovative ways to do the same old assignments! Ruth is creative, friendly, knowl-edgeable, and passionate. She loves her subject matter, but loves her students even more! Ruth will work with even the most non intentional learners and somehow find a way to motivate them. If she hasn't seen someone in a day or two, she just stops by to say "hi".
