Show Humane Society in Moab Has Been Kept Busy , W. D. MC ARTHUR The Humane society of Grand County reports the following activities in regard to animals. On September 28 an investigated investi-gated report by over 15 citizens that a horse had died because of malnutrition. Also a cow was being starved. Investigation disclosed contradictory contra-dictory reports by various persons on the matter of the horse. The cow is now being fed and watered regularly. October 1 1 the Society w as called about a hurt and lost dog. This dog was picked up by Society, fed and sheltered over-night and the owner located the next morning. This dog was wearing a license which made owners easy to locate. On October 12 was called about a pregnant cat. Caller advised to phone trading post on KURA and if no result to call the city animal control. September 29 a report was phoned about a St. Bernard dog and a Police dog that was being tied up and abused. Investigation revealed that the charge was without foundation. founda-tion. On the night of Oct. 4 some one suspected of administered poison to the above mentioned St. Bernard and her 9 puppies. The mother and six pups died the same night and one pup a week later. This investigation will never cease until poisoner is caught and punished. A person who administers poison to any tame animal is guilty of a very serious crime and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law when sufficient evidence is gathered to present a case in court. A lost black poodle was found and cared for by the Society on Sunday Oct. 12. On Monday Oct. 13 the ow ner v. found by Trading Post. (Thanks for your cooperation Les Erbes) On Oct. 13 a report of 2 horses at County Riding Club phoned in. Caller reported a mare and colt being starved and not given water. Firs; investigation revealed that the colt seemed to be in coM condition although a lack of ! adequate water was a serious ; problem in stall 31. Stall 32 revealed that the horse would , eat anything given her. The horse, a marc, was in p.xr condition. The water problem was serious and the vetcrinar-ian vetcrinar-ian was called in to give hi-. ' opinion as to the condition of : the mare. Owner could not be located on Monday Oct. 13 as r the court house was closed n because of Columbus Day. i'. No action on the two horses f. has been taken until it is t determined that the owners r are guilty of neglect, r "FAST FOR THE POOR" The "Fast for the Poor". sponsored by The Episcopal Church of St. Francis', resumes re-sumes this coming Friday at 12 noon. Persons attending are asked to donate what they ordinarily would spend for lunch on th.it day to help relieve World Hunger. Homemade soup and bread arc served. Last year this project had strong community support and we were able to send in over $1200.
