Photo by Tom Tay0r ! 4-H Livestock Sale Held Here Saturday l By Hallie Tibbltts The Grand County 4-H ' Livestock Club held their ! f fourth annual Livestock Show j md Sale on.Saturday June 19. ) Although there had been 4-H i livestock projects held in Moab a number of years ago it I has been awhile since there has been an active livestock I oreanization. This year boys and girls raised a total of 17 steers, three lambs and two swine. I The Grand Champion steer 1 was raised by Katie White and ' bought by Millers Supermarket. Supermar-ket. The Grand Champion lamb raised by Melaine Dowley was ' bought by George White and the Grand Champion swine, raised by Shane Martineau was bought by D.L. Taylor. The 4-H Club work gives boys and girls real life experience in the livestock industry and our club members mem-bers learned a very real lesson this year in the fact that many time it is difficult to make a profit on raising livestock but all feel that it has been a very good learning experience and are looking forward to next year to see if they can raise animals that will come up to the standards they did this year. Very often we hear local business men say that they endorse the 4-H project and believe it is a wonderful training program for young people. Right here in Moab we have a man who not only says he backs up the 4-H program, but does something about it. Mr. Ralph Miller Sr. has long been a great supporter of our young people and now this tradition is being carried on by Ralph Jr. The 4-H Club members and their leaders wish to thank Mr. Miller, and all those who came out to make our Livestock Show and sale possible. The 4-H Club wishes to thank all those businesses that sponsored their livestock program; Vion Johnston, Auctioned Auc-tioned Jim McPherson and D.L. Taylor for taking bids; Tom Taylor for doing the photography; Blue Mountain Meat, who transported the animals to Monticello for us; Ray Alger for the use of his portable corral; The Stock Car Association for their bleachers and LaSal oil for their equipment to haul the bleach ers; Dr. Clare Accard an County Agent Jim Stevens fo judging the show and Arne Holyoak for Brand inspection and any others who help in s many ways. We really appre ciate the help we have hai from the Times Independent Town T.V. and K.U.R.A. fo the fine job we had ii advertising. And a special thanks to yoi fine young people who ari willing to spend many lonj hours of hard work and go t such great expense to develo an animal in to a fine sho' piece like you did this year.
