Show Moat 4-H Club I News Nctos I When Utahns are boarding planes with international in-ternational destinations next summer, a group of Utah 4-H'ers will be among them. These young people will fly to Japan on the Utah 4-H-Japanese Labo Exchange program, according to Debra Pauley, County Extension Agent. In Japan, each young person will live for about four weeks with a host family. They will be just as another family member, working and playing beside their Japanese host parents, brothers and sisters. The 4-H exchangees will also see parts of Japan with their host families and attend a JapaneseLabo camp. Teenagers participating in this exchange may become involved in a 4-H International Studies program pro-gram preparatory to the summer exchange. This study will include language, history and culture of Japan. The youthful travelers, ages 13-19, pay their own costs for the exchange. The exchange is jointly coordinated by the Utah State University Extension Exten-sion Service and the Labo Exchange Foundation of Japan. Debra emphasizes, "Both the Extension Service Ser-vice and the Labo Foundation Founda-tion are concerned with bettering international relations re-lations and deepening cross-cultural understanding understand-ing through homestay programs." For more information about 4-H programs and about the youth exchange, contact Debra Pauley at the Grand County Exten-sion Exten-sion Office, at 259-7598. |
