A crew from Town TV late last week finished the installation of a dish-type antenna which will receive television signals from a satellite orbiting the Earth. The antenna is the final critical link in Town TV's new "Q-Station" service, which will feature movies and sports events uninterrupted by commercials to subscribers. The program signal is transmitted from various locations throughout the country to the satellite, which is in ' "synchronous" orbit 22,300 above the Earth's surface. The speed of the satellite exactly matches the rotation of the Earth, which causes the satellite to appear to remain stationary in one position above the Earth. The satellite retransmits the signal to Earth receiving stations such as the one shown above on 4th East. |
