Show Tough season predicted for hoop team In an interview Tuesday Del Ford, head Basketball Coach for the Moab Red Devils, said that he expects "a real tough season," this year. Of the 10 teams listed on the 78-79 schedule, Ford stated that Millard, San Juan and Delta could prove to be the toughest competition for the Devils. In discussing this year's team, Ford said that the Devils were somewhat lacking in height, but "we have good speed and some good shooters." Ford explained that he would have only three returning varsity players, Seniors Ted McDougald and Lauwan Cunningham and Junior Pat Cunningham. Cunning-ham. He stated tht he expects much of the team's play to key on McDougald. A AM A., a A Ford went on to say that the basketball team had been somewhat hampered in early practice sessions by the extended football season this year. "We're about one week behind, but the kids are working hard," he said. Coach Ford stated that the annual alumni-varsity game, to be held Wednesday, Wednes-day, Nov. 22, will be a "good test" for the Devil team. "We'll be outgunned," out-gunned," he commented, going on to say that he expects the game to be a good one. The alumni team will be limited to those players who have graduated in the last couple of years, he said. The first regularly scheduled sche-duled league contest will be an away game at Norwood, Colo. Ford said that Norwood, even though a Class 1A school, should field a strong team. The first home game for the Red Devils will be Saturday, Dec. 2, against Nucla, Colo. |
