Show County Scales Down Airport Application Grand County's Commissioners Commis-sioners Monday signed a modified agreement with the State Aeronautics for airport improvements. The netw agreement calls for less expenditure than had previously been asked. In the first application for funds, the County stated sta-ted that they had asked for funds adequate for leveling le-veling the strip and then applying an additional two inch surfacing on top of the strip. The strip was to be 100 feet wide and have 20 feet of shoulders, and drains and lights were to be moved and improved. New plans call for leveling level-ing a strip only 75 feet wide without the added two inch overlay. The decision de-cision to make the airport runway narrower came after af-ter Federal agencies expressed ex-pressed concern over possible pos-sible plans by Frontier Airlines to cut service to (tihis area to a smaller plane. Improvements on drainage will still be made (Cornrrnissioner Mars Pope stated. Funding for the curmet, modified, project will include in-clude $228,000 from the FAA, $77,500 from the State Aeronautics, and $77,500 from the County. To help defray costs to the County, they plan to ask the Four Corners Commission for 18 percent of the total cost of the project pro-ject in aid. Commissioner Pope stated that applications applica-tions for this funding were) currently being studies. stu-dies. New applications have stiressed the safety measures which will be enhanced by the application applica-tion of the leveling course at the airport. Other business brought before the Commission included in-cluded an agreement to pay Tex McClatchey $5 (for each dead cow he removes re-moves from the riverbank. In cases where the cow is hard to remove, the County Coun-ty will pay the $5 fee plus $2 per hour plus 10 cents a mile for vehicles used in the removal. Arthur Chidester and lother1 State Highway officials of-ficials met with the Commission Com-mission and discussed the 4th East project which is slated to begin within the, next two weeks. J. C. Beeson was granted grant-ed approval to go to Pro-vo Pro-vo to pick up food supplement supple-ment in May and June. The food supplement is part of the CAP organization organiza-tion and will go to needy families in Moab. Beeson will be given 10 cents a mile to make the trip. He will also be given $15 per trip when he is asked to take an alcoloic to the re-rehabilitation re-rehabilitation center in Price. Kay Young met and asked ask-ed the county to repair the Sand Flats road. He was directed to contact J. V. Westwood, County Road Supervisor, concerning concern-ing this problem. Cecil Shafer,- Building Inspector, met with the Commission to discuss Ibuilding permit problems. He was directed to discuss dis-cuss the legal aspects of the problems with County Attorney1 Harry Snow. |
