ROUTE ' Low Level Bomber Runs Scheduled Over fvloab-Green River Area Soon Beginning October 1, 1970, Strategic Air Command Com-mand tSAC) B-52 bombj ers will fly low - level bombing missions against simulated targets near Mil-ford Mil-ford and Elgin, (Green River) Utah. Radar bomb scoring equipment at Air Force facilities fa-cilities near these two , towns will use radio and radar signals to measure accuracy of simulated bomb drops. For several months SAC B-52 Stratofortresses wii! fly at sub - sonic speeds along the centerline of a 10 - mile - wide corridor at 1.5C0 to 3,0G0 above the ground during these training train-ing missions. The aircraft do not . carry bombs on these flights. The aircraft will enter the route at a point a few miles northwest of Sanders, Sand-ers, Ariz., and proceed northwest toward Elgin Utah. They will turn further fur-ther west before reaching Huntington, Utah, and proceed pro-ceed beyond Mt. Pleasant passing to the south cf that city. The route then turns toward the south west, passing to the east of Delta., Utah, and terminating term-inating to the west of Mil-ford. Mil-ford. The aircraft will then return to high altitude turning to the north and west toward Nevada. A mobile Radar Bomb Scoring (RBS) facility is located at Elgin and Mil-fcrd. Mil-fcrd. This mobile RBS facility fa-cility is designed to inject realism into SAC training programs by providing crews with a wide range of unfamiliar targets and routes. Approximately GO A'r Force personnel will man the site at Milford with a smaller detachment at Elgin. El-gin. These are radar and electronic technicians plus personnel needed to maintain main-tain the facility and furnish fur-nish other support. |
