Show 4-Wheel campout slated here Sept. 2 & 3 The Fifth Annual Four Wheeler Campout, sponsored by the Moab Chamber of Commerce will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2 and 3. Five trails will be available for the four wheelers this year, including a new route into Beef Basin and the Needles area of Canyonlands National Park. Guides familiar with the area will lead each group. All trips will depart from Moab City Park at 8:15 Saturday morning following an optional breakfast prepared by the Moab Jaycees. The organizers urge participants to pre-register on forms available at the Chamber of Commerce. There is no charge for the event, but the Jaycee breakfast will cost $1.75 for those who pre-register and $2 Sept. 2. The two-day campout event will be open to anyone with a highway registered four wheel drive vehicle. Trail bikes, all-terrain vehicles and non-licensed four wheel drive vehicles and dune buggies are not acceptable for legal and safety reasons, organizers stated. Participants must supply their own food, water and camping gear, as none will be available on the campout routes. All campsites will be in very remote areas, so participants should plan to be self-sufficient. One gallon of drinking water per person per day is recommended. Along with registration forms, information is available at the Chamber of Commerce regarding descriptions of the five trails. |
