Show Utah's interstate reaches 80 per cent mark The Utah Department of Transportation announced an-nounced today that Utah has reached the 80 percent per-cent mark in opening completed sections of the state's Interstate Highway System to traffice as of August 1. Of Utah's 939 mile Interstate System 698 miles (74 percent) are completed, 53 (six percent) per-cent) are open to traffic but still in stage construction, construc-tion, 43 miles (five percent) per-cent) are currently under construction, and only 145 miles (15 percent) are still under design. Forty-six of the 53 miles under stage construction are to bring Interstate 70 from two lanes to four lanes. The breakdown bv sys tems is as follows: 1-15 - 78.1 percent complete 1-70 - 73 percent complete com-plete (includes 20 percent under stage construction) 1-80 - 92 percent complete I-80N - 88.4 percent complete 1-215 - 56 percent complete UDOT Director William D. Hurley expressed pie-sure pie-sure with the Department's Depart-ment's progress on the Interstate completion. According Ac-cording to Mr. Hurley, "The Department has been very aggressive in filling in the interstate gaps. This has been one of the busiest construction seasons in the state's history and we're looking forward to 1979 being equally productive in terms of Interstate pro-gress." |
