Show Joe Miller Named Park Superintendent in Georgia Joseph R. Miller, 38, National Park Service Midwest Regional Safety Officer, and former resident re-sident of Moab, has been named Superintendent of Kennesaw Mountain Nation Na-tion Battlefield Park, Ga., it was announced today to-day by David D. Thompson, Thomp-son, Jr., Regional Director Di-rector of the Service's Southeast Region. Miller will assume his new duties Ocotber 15. He succeeds Bernard Goodman, who was named na-med Superintendent of Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. ; Miller began his Na- ! tional Park Service ca-i ca-i reer in 1952 as a sum- mer tour guide at Mam- moth Cave National ! Park, Ky. From 1954 i 1 to 1965, he leld main-i main-i tenance positions at I Grand Teton National I ; Park, Wyo. He also ser-' ser-' ved from 1965 through . ; 1968 at Bandelier National Na-tional Monument, N.M. ; In 1968, he transferred ' to Canyonlands National Park, Utah, as Mainten-" Mainten-" ance Supervisor. He was C I I promoted in 1971 to Management Man-agement Assistant, Park Safety Officer, at Yellowstone Yel-lowstone National Park, Wvo. The Gallup, N.M. native na-tive is a second generation gener-ation NPS employee, his father having served at Chaco Canyon National Monument, N.M. The new Kennesaw Mountain Superintendent ' and his wife, Jeanniene, have three children--Carol, 16, Cheryl, 14, and Cathy, 13. Kennesaw Mountain National, Battlefield Park--less than a 30-minute 30-minute drive northwest of downtown Atlanta -contains sites of two fierce battles between Union and Confederate forces during the Atlanta campaign, July 30-July 2, 1864.
