Show Bennett Eyes Corners Money For Survey Sen.' Wallace F. Bennett, R-Utah, this week called for $250,000 of a $45 million grant approved earlier this week by the Senate for the Four Corners Regional Commission Com-mission to be used to finance a road survey to determine the best route for a proposed parkway in the region. . . The amount would provide funding for a bill introduced introduc-ed by the Senator to begin working toward establishment establish-ment of a "Golden Circle" road complex in the Four Corners- area. gMi "Under the Economic Development De-velopment Administration's program approved by the Senate thjs week, new funds and status are offered to such regions as the Four Corners which are economically economic-ally underdeveloped," Son. Bennett explained in letters to Secretary of Commerce . Mauricc Stans .and Four Corners co-chairman W. D. Brewer, Federal represcnta-N tive, and David Cargo, Governor Gov-ernor of New Mexico, state representative. Son. Bennett said: "I have long believed that a circular parkway linking the national parks and other tourist attractions at-tractions of the area would be a major economic asset to the states involved. "Since tourism is vitally connected to economic development de-velopment in many areas of the West, it w ould socm logical log-ical that the Four Corners Commission use a small part of the $15 million to complete a road survey." |
