Show Hildur linger named outstanding member of Moab's active Literary Club Hildur N. Unger of Moab, has been voted outstanding club member for 1977-78 by the Woman's Literary Club. Mrs. Unger was born in Telluride, Colorado in December, 1910. Her parents, par-ents, Axel and Frida Nelson, both natives of Sweden, met and married in Telluride. The small mountain community was her home until 1920, when her family moved to Sweden for a year. In 1921 they returned to Placerville, Colorado where she completed her eighth grade education and graduated from Telluride High School in , 1927. She received her degree in teaching from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, CO. Twenty seven years of her life was spent in teaching, the last twenty in Moab. Her husband, Richard, and she were married in Denver in 1937. This was toward the end of the ' 'depression" 'de-pression" times and he had a new job awaiting in Nevada. The next 8 years were spent in gold mining camps in Nevada, Cal., and then back to Colorado where for twelve years they lived at the Idarado Mine above Ouray. They have two children, Mary Murray in Dallas and John "Pat," living in Moab. In 1956 they moved to Moab, where Dick was employed as mill superintendent super-intendent for the Uranium Reduction Company, now Atlas Minerals. At the time they came here, Moab was a "boom" town and teachers in demand, so she went back to the schoolroom and taught at Helen M. Knight school for twenty years, where Hildur was active in the local and State teacher's organizations. Now they are both retired retir-ed and enjoy traveling. They are also involved with many community and social groups. She is a charter member of the Southeastern Utah Section of the Women's Auxiliary of the Society of American Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (WAAIME), and has served serv-ed as chairman of this group twice. She is also a Past Matron or the Order of Eastern Star, past representative rep-resentative to the State of Iowa and Past Grand Marshall of Grand Chapter, Chap-ter, Utah. Her duties called cal-led for traveling to Iowa, visiting of all Eastern Star Chapters in Utah. She also visited the Grand Chapter in the State of Oregon. Her project in Literary Club was an anti-littering campaign conducted in the schools where the students made posters which were displayed in numerous store windows in town. She also as chairman of education along with her committee selected the winner of the club scholarship at S.U.C.C.E. besides putting on a program pro-gram for the club. Mrs. Unger was also recognized at the District convention of the Utah Federation of Women's Clubs last weekend in Orangeville. She enjoys embroidery, crocheting and knitting in addition to reading and traveling. |
