Show Area rivers are booming, expected flows listed by Bureau of Reclamation The snowpack of the Upper Colorado River Basin is above normal for this time of the year, forecast at 138 percent of normal. Compared to normal, nor-mal, snow depths and water content are about 144 percent for the Green River watershed, 127 percent per-cent for the Colorado River area in Colorado, and for the San Juan watershed a normal runoff is forecast. Colorado River above Lake Powell:. The flow of the Colorado River at Westwater Canyon is a-bout a-bout 255 m3s (900 cfs.) and will increase to about 700 m3s (25,000 cfs.) in May or June. Cataract Canyon flow, including the Green River is about 450 m3s (16,000 cfs.) and will increase to about 1400 m3s (50,000 cfs.) in May or June. Lake Powell is at elevation 1104 meters (3624 feet) and is expected to reach 1116.8 meters (3664 feet) this summer, which is 3 meters (10 feet) higher than the maximum last summer. Colorado River through Grand Canyon: During April and May, the flows at Lees Ferry will average around 200 m3s (7000 cfs.). Minimum releases (usually hitting between midnight and 6 a.m.) will be 85 m3s (3000 cfs.). Upper Green River Flows: The forecast of inflow to Flaming Gorge is 44 percent above average. The release from Fonte-nelle Fonte-nelle Reservoir is about 48 m3s (1700 cfs.) and will be increased as the inflow increases. Green River flows below be-low Flaming Gorge Dam: Flaming Gorge Reservoir is at 1825.4 meters (5989 feet) above mean sea level. It is expected to increase to 1835 meters (6020 feet) next summer. The inflow is about 62 m3s (2200 cfs.). The mean daily release will be about 34 m3s (1200 cfs.) in April and the first half of May. Daily fluctuations of releases from 23 m3s (800 cfs.) to 113 m3s (4000 cfs.) will occur in response to power demands. de-mands. The hourly pattern pat-tern of releases will be similar to Glen Canyon with the minimum occurring occur-ring from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Because of some work on the Green River channel chan-nel below Flaming Gorge Dam, the release from Flaming Gorge Reservoir will be restricted to 40 m3s (1400 cfs.) part of the time during the period from May 15 to June 30. There will be a further reduction to 23 m3s (1400 cfs.) for a period up to 72 hours during the same period. This will have a significant effect on the flow of the Green River between Flaming Gorge Dam and the Yampa River. Because of the high inflow, which is forecast for the Yampa River, the flow of the Green River below the Yampa River will be higher than normal. norm-al. More details will be provided in the May Advisory. The flow of the Green River at Green River, Utah now approximately 200 m3s (7000 cfs.), will increase to about 700 m3s (25,000 cfs.) in May or June. Flows in the San Juan River: The present release of 15 m3s (530 cfs.) from Navajo Dam will be maintained for several months. The flow of the San Juan River at Bluff is about 68 m3s (2400 cfs.). Navajo Reservoir is at elevation 1898 meters (6227) feet) and is expected expect-ed to reach elevation 1849.5 meters (6068 feet) next summer. |
