Show the issue is now before us On Page B5 of this issue are arguments pro and con on th2 matter of fluoridation; along with a detailed explanation ,)f how the question became an issue in Moab. For those voters who will be participating in the Municipal Elections this fall, we s ron?ly recommend study of both sides of the issue supplemented by deaer research if questions still persist. The matter will be decided by the electorate; and the electora'e should accept the responsibility to become genuinely informed on the subject. Several wes'.;s ago, we urged the electorate to become informed in-formed on the issue, foreseeing at that time that it would probably land on the ballot. That editorial took no side on the issue,, but merely urged an enlightened electorate. The editorial, incidentally, was criticized by an opponent of fluoridation, as being in favcr cf the City's action. The editorial edi-torial writer v.i9 criticized for failing to make his personal stand clear on the subject. If our previous editorial could be construed to have been in favor of fluoridation, then it follows, after re-reading it, tha: those opposed to the issue are not particularly in favor of an enlightened electorate. . To set the record straight, and to dear up any misunderstandings misunder-standings on our position, we do favor fluoridation of Moab'? water sys'em. feeling that the overwhelming scientific evidence evi-dence is on the positive side of fih? issue; with generalities, fear tactics ar.d general lack of concern for the whole community com-munity on the negative side. That is our opinion, and we recognize and respect the opinions of others. We do urg3, however, that the voters delve deeply enough into the issue, to satisfy themselves. |
