Show i ; j Firm engaged to recruit ; i more doctors for Moab i I Following several months of I fruitless efforts, the board of Allen I Memorial Hospital voted at its J meeting last Thursday to engage a professional firm to recruit new physicians to Moab. The board and medical staff had I met Wednesday evening with Kay J Freeman of Medical Administration Resource Center (MARC), Salt Lake City, to hear her presentation on the company's method of I matching physicians to communi-J communi-J ties. J She stated that during the last 5 years 1 the quality of life has j emerged as an extremely important I factor in a physician's decision J about where he chooses to practice ! medicine. From an aesthetic I standpoint, she said, Moab appears j to stand head and shoulders above I many rural communities currently I seeking doctors. The process she outlined begins with two 8-hour assessment ses- sions, one with the medical staff I and the other with the board. I Working with an outline which has j already been developed, the j various facets of community life and opportunities will be identified, I and at the end of the sessions a I community profile will be compiled which will serve two purposes. j The first is to identify local I needs, separating "perceived J needs" from "real needs." This ! needs assessment, she said, will reveal just how many physicians, if any, are needed and in what areas I of specialty. The second purpose served will j be to have a document which can be presented to an interested physi- cian (or anyone in any field I interested in the community) giving a thorough and realistic picture of life in Moab and Grand County. In order to be successful in. physician recruitment, she said, the I approach must be one of a "team" J working together. In this instance, the team will consist of the medical i staff, the board, the hospital j administrator, and the community. I MARC, at the same time, will be j doing background studies on ! interested physicians in order to best fit the physician to the community. j Hospital Administrator Kay I Hawks said a list of possible dates for the assessment sessions is expected to be received this week, and that the recruitment program, j with the assistance of MARC, will I begin immediately.
