Show "Green River ub A Letter from Pearl, lona and Barbara... Chamber of Commerce At a special meeting on March 24. the Chamber of Commerce elected ten members mem-bers to fill out their Board. Those elected were: Mrs. Blaine (Sandi) Silliman, Mrs. Pearl Baker, Tim Anderson. Will'ord Durrant, Ben White, Joel Martone. Homer Nelson, Ben Behnke, A. C. Ekker, H. S. Anderson. Together with holdover members Lee How-land. How-land. Tony Spadafora, Jim Walters, Bill Bacon and Newell Maughn, the fifteen-man fifteen-man board will serve the organization for the coming year. Some of the projects the Chamber has undertaken are the re-filling of the charter with the State, town beautifi-cation beautifi-cation and an effort to interest some industry in moving in. Another program that is being looked into is the establishing of a visitors' center for the dissemination of information to the tourists just coming into the state, as well as pointing out alternate routes of great scenic interest for those leaving Utah. Through the City, the Chamber has ordered several thousand little trees. These seedlings will be planted in the sewer plant ground, and will be cared for. by the City employees. They will later be transferred for windbreaks wherever needed. The next meeting of the Chamber of Commerce is at the Overnighter on the 14th, at 7:00, with a dinner and meeting. The new board will elect the president and vice president for the coming year. Meeting will start at 8:00. Girls State Three girls were chosen this year for Girls State at a meeting of Legion Auxiliary Unit 103. Miss Lori Hunt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hunt will be sponsored spon-sored by Woman's Club, Miss Kathy Stott, daughter of Mr. I and Mrs. Errol Stott will , represent the Sorority, and Miss Dee King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean King will be the choice of the Auxiliary. Miss Ruth Ann Reay, daught- er of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reay, was elected alternate. Mrs. Mae Silliman was in charge of presenting the girls and conducting the meeting. Mrs. Sinclair (Lctilia) Thompson will be a counselor again this year at the Girls State week at Southern Utah Slate College at Cedar City. Mrs. Thompson also serves on the Girls Slate Board. Weekend at Home Miss Jan Silliman spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Silliman. Jan is teaching school at Midvale. Also, at the Sillimans for the weekend was Mrs. Silliman's cousin, Margaret Naylor. New Baby Mrs. Robert Smith (Karen Silliman) brought her new baby daughter, Leslie, down for the home folks to see. She spent some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Silliman, who also enjoyed big sister Satina's stay. Satina is now five years old. Returns Home Roy Dean Irvine returned from California last week. He went down there to make his home a couple of years ago, but states he is glad to be back in Green River, and expects to stay here a good long time. Attends Convention Mrs. Sinclair Thompson, Mrs. Grace Peterson, Mrs. Noreen Wilson, Mrs. Lucille Holloway, and Mrs. Naomi Dumas attended the District American Legion and Auxiliary Auxili-ary convention in Price on Saturday. Baby Shower Mrs. Ruth Maughn entertained enter-tained at a baby shower for Mrs. Lyla Brock on Saturday evening. About 25 ladies were in attendance to enjoy games and presentation of gifts to the mother-to-be. After delicious refreshments, the group enjoyed en-joyed a social hour just visiting. Buys Business Calvin, Keith, and Ernest Bastian bought the Stephens Ice company equipment from Mrs. Virginia Stephens, and have moved it to the Mobil Station. They will call the new company the Bastian Brothers Ice Company. They already have about ten stations around town to service, in stores, service stations and other businesses, J as well as the campgrounds. Also, they will have ice I available for river runners outfitting in Green River. ) The Mobil station is owned by Calvin Bastian, and he offers a complete service for cars. The station will house the ice plant, but will continue to serve Mobil customers, also. Refrigeration repair will be i offered as soon as they boys get set up and in operation. Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reay announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Coni to Curtis Lang, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Lang of St. George. Utah. The young couple will be married April 15 at the LDS Chapel with Bishop Edward Hansen officiating. A reception recep-tion at the Cultural Hall will follow in the evening at 7:30. They will also be honored at an Open House on April 16 at the Lang home at 510 E. 600 S. in St. George, Utah. Miss Reay graduated from the Green River high school and from Dixie College in June, 1975. She has since been employed in St. George. The groom was graduated from Dixie College, and went on to further training in the College of Southern Utah at Cedar City. Stale Park News Total visitation for the month of March at Green River State Park was 2.289 people. 338 people camped over night. Visitation was up by 79 in March 1976 over the same period in 1975. Camping, Camp-ing, however, was down by 10 in March 1976. I would attribute the decrease to the very unstable weather we have had this month. Interviews were conducted in Salt Lake City on March 22, 1976 for the seasonal ranger and park worker that will be hired for the summer season. Allen Beard was hired. Allen comes from Willard, Utah and is a sophomore at Weber State College in Ogden. He is majoring in police science and hopes to attain his degree in this field. Allen began work on April 1, 1976. Womans Club Mrs. Florence Howland, President of the Green River Womans Club, presided at the April 1 meeting held at the gracious home of Mrs. Barbara Bar-bara Childs. Mrs. Noreen Wilson offered the evening prayer, and Pres. Howland led the Pledge of Allegiance. Sixteen members answered the Roll Call with an Easter poem. ' International Affairs was the theme of the evenings' program, pro-gram, and Mrs. Linda Fluckey gave a most interesting and informative talk on Africa. Slides of unusual beauty and recordings of native African music made the program an outstanding treat for those attending. Pres. Howland announced that Lee Howland had presented pre-sented a check for $250 to the Womans Club from the Grand County Commissioners for use in the continued improvement improve-ment of the cemetery. She also reported that the City crew had completed putting in a new culvert on the cemetery road. Mrs. Scott Anderson, CIP chairman, stated that the City Hall beautification project is under way with the removal of the gravel and poor dirt surrounding the building. |
