Show Alcohol-Drug Workshop Invites Participants Friday, Saturday A workshop on alcohol and drug problems and entitled "Community Profiles" begins here Friday, with an array of consultants and facilitators from several states featured on the agenda. Sponsored by the Grand County Drug and Alcohol Advisory Board in cooperation with the Utah Division of Alcoholism and Drugs, the two-day seminar will offer something for everybody in the community. Registration will start at 10:00 a.m. in the lobby of the courthouse and continue until the luncheon at noon. The luncheon will be at the Ramada Inn as will the other two dinner meetings during the conference. The courthouse court-house will be the site for sessions. Registration entitles participants partici-pants to dinner Friday at 6:30 p.m. The initial luncheon will set the tenor of the workshop, with Dr. Gary Jorgenson .speaking on "Alcohol-Drug Problems in Utah". Bill Hale of National Health Systems, Newport Beach, California will speak on "Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment" at the Friday dinner. The final luncheon Saturday, Satur-day, has Miles Turnbull, Editor, San Juan Record, talking on Community Problem Prob-lem Solving. In between all that will be sessions that will be applicable to any segment of the community including youth who are encouraged to attend. Each session will offer either three or four different areas of discussion. Law enforcement, treatment, education and employment em-ployment are samples of discussions to be held. Five sessions are scheduled plus a period for closure terminating the workshop at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Atypical session, Workshop Series II, would deal with these areas and these consultants: "Law Enforcement" with Don Harmon, Har-mon, Intelligence Division, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, "Communication Skills" conducted by Dick Brown, Executive Director, Mental Health Association, San Antonio, Texas and "Values in Education" conducted con-ducted by Human Relations Specialist Eileen Ochse from Salt Lake City and John Salimeno, Juvenile Probation Officer of Colorado Springs. A registration fee of $5.00 will be charged, but students will be able to participate free of charge with proper arrangements arrange-ments through the schools. The Friday dinner is free to registrants. For those who wish to obtain college credit at graduate or undergraduate level, it is available in Health Science through Utah State University with payment of a $10 fee. Through the cooperation of several Moab merchants, refreshments re-freshments will be available between most of the sessions. Copies of the entire agenda will be available at registration. |
