Show April Park Visitation Dropped in This Area A decrease in visitation during the month of April was found to be the case in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, as well as in the Natural Bridges National Monument, in review of the month's totals. Only 12,811 people visited Arches this year compared to 17,784 in 1974; 2,377 people visited Natural Bridges, a 50 per cent decrease under the total 4,845 of last year; and Canyonlands National Park, which includes Island in the Sky, the Needles, and the Maze District, had 4,605 visitors compared with 7,755 in 1974. The biggest drop was in the Maze District which represented repre-sented a 71 per cent decrease as only 121 people visited this year compared with 420 in April last year. The Arches received three per cent more visitors this year to date at the end of April than last year. The number of visitors to all other areas is behind that of 1974. A total of 5,583 visitors to Natural Bridges this year to date of 23 per cent fewer than the total 7,294 of last year. Only 248 people have been to the Maze District so far this year as compared to 590 of 1974. |
