Show encouraging visit The "bit last Friday of Director Dan Lawrence and his -stafT from the Utah Water Resources Board, re-lalivo re-lalivo to a rew and more reasonable plan for the Pack Creek WaU-r Project in the Moab area, was extremely encouraging. When the U. S. Corps of Army Engineers told local officials a rew months ago that the project they had designed de-signed wai not feasible on an equitable pay-back basis, the news came as Utile surprise. The ivory tower plan. I nin.r methods used by the Corps, which priced a concrete ! arch dam in Mill Creek at over $10 million,' might have been nice if unlimited funds were involved, but for a people used to doing things the most effectively for the least amount of money, the Army plans were a little ridiculous. ri-diculous. """'J It appears now that a new design being worked out by the State Water Resources Board, in cooperation with Orand County and its Economic Development Board, might just b - well within the potential of the two local dgeiu-iies, without aid from the Federal government's Corps of Engineers. At lease the preliminary reviews are encouraging, Mr. Lawrence indicated. By doing the jab ourselves, we might just be able to get it done --- and within a reasonable amount of time . It's unfortunate that we don't have access to all the thousands of dollars that have been spent over the years by various Federal agencies who have studied, rest tidied; designed and redesigned the project usually from ;"' distance of several thousand miles. ., ' ! |
