"' - Entertaining visFtors at the pre-Safari barbecue sponsored by Moab Boy Scouts, were members of the Orem Chapter of the The Boy Scout pre-Safari barbecue of last Friday night came off with an outstanding out-standing success with approximately ap-proximately 1200 to 1400 taking tak-ing advantage of the meal and the entertainment. Surprise guests at the affair af-fair were Governor and Mrs. Calvin Ramipton and Sen. Frank E. Moss who were in the area to inspect the new additions of the Arches and Capitol Reef. The Governor's Govern-or's party also attended the Safari breakfast Saturday morning before leaving on their inspection flight. Chair man of the Safari breakfast Ray Branscom said that they served 475 Saturday morning. Another visitor at-, tending the Scout Barbecue was Charles Redd who was also the donator of 1500 lbs. of beef. The purpose . of the barbeque was to help the Scouts rase funds which they did through the help of various companies who donated do-nated food and the people who attended the program. The entertainment consisted consist-ed of a superb performance of Indian dancing put on by the Orem Chapter of the Order Or-der of the Arrow. The group of honor scouts performed their dances with live snakes and flaming hoops. City Market gave the barbecue bar-becue sauce and all paper products were given by Dixon Dix-on Paper Company of Grand Junction. Kraft Foods also gave all the salad dressinj;. Denver Milling Company donated the 300 pounds of flour from which the 2200 rolls were made. Phil Car-don, Car-don, baker at City Market helped the First Ward Explorers Ex-plorers in the baking process. pro-cess. Explorer Valdon Teep-les Teep-les baked the beans and Lee Stocks' group baked the potatoes. po-tatoes. Mel Dalton's group made the rootbeer, dispensed dispens-ed all pop and coffee, and collected all bottles. Bob Migilori's Explorers did all of the hauling of equipment Friday including paper good foods and cooking equipment. Six ladies were involved voluntarily in making the salad. These were Southeast Order of the Arrow, honor Scouts, who performed their dances wiih live snakes and flaming hoops. They were assisted as-sisted by Ida Dalton, Al Dene De-ne BJack, Kay Barnes, La Von Williams, Inez Young, and Arlene Farnsworth. Superintendent Sup-erintendent Sundwall allowed allow-ed the school kitchen to be used in making the salad which was much appreciated by the Scouts. Mr. B. E. Fears mixed Jp the special sauce and cooked cook-ed up the meat according to his own recipe. Fears barbecued bar-becued the beef in his own backyard pit. Explorer Troop 2317 under the leadership of Bob Migi-lori Migi-lori demonstrated their techniques tech-niques of search and rescue on the cliffs across, from Lions Club Park. Chairman of the Boy Scout affair, Gene Cary said there were a number of organizations organiza-tions and individuals donating donat-ing supplies and labor which made it possible for tffo Scouts to have a successful benefit program. In addition to Charles Redd who donated 1500 lbs. of beef, all vegetables and produce were given to the Scouts by Pacific Fruit of Grand Junction, Carbon-Emery Produce of Price, Denver Den-ver Tomato Company, and Buck Oda Potato Company of Grand Junction. The butter but-ter was donated by Hi-land and Meadow Gold. Three pop companies, Pepsi Pep-si Cola, Seven Up and Coca- Cola donated all the soft drinks. Yamas and Millers provided the sugar for the rootbeer. Kraft Foods jjd.'2 . the Boston baked beans ind MJB Coffee Co. donated, the coffee, and Gene Cary cooked cook-ed the beef at Lions Club Park from 5 a.m. Friday till the last person was served serv-ed at 9 that evening. Dick Wight, City Market butcher helped in the meat - cutting Friday. Chairman Gene Cary stated that many others oth-ers were involved in making this first Scout barbecue a success and that each of .these were appreciated. Rod Phillips was another appreciated apprec-iated volunteer . who spent the entire day at the park giving assistance.
