"I will restate what I told ' the Governor and others two months ago, and that is that !We do not have any change n plans for the Moab operation," opera-tion," Mr. Donohoo stated Wednesday, continuing on ' to state that his firm was doing all it could to expand Jits sales effort in order to take advantage of ores from both the Cane Creek and Canadian operations in the future. Mr. Donohoo refused to speculate on the future, and I we don't blame him. Too many factors figure into any mine production, milling operation op-eration and sales effort, re- , gardless of the product being be-ing produced, for any really ' long-range, hard and' fast i predictions.'. " . ' ' ,We were encouraged, how- " ever, by the positive statement state-ment from the company executive ex-ecutive that -Texas Gulf Sulphur Sul-phur intends to stay in the potash business and become as competitive as possible in that market. -SJT- Plans for a super celebration celebra-tion this year in Moab, com- jbining both the annual Can- yonlands Rodeo and a local observance of the Mfnor John Wesley Powell Centen- nial, are full of real possibilities. possi-bilities. We see an endless list of attractions that could be combined to give the community com-munity its biggest celebra- P tion in years. It is encouraging to see the Rodeo Committee hard at work making the detailed plans for this summer's show. It is also encouraging jo see them attempting to involve other interests and groups in their planning in : an attempt to make this an even bigger event than- we have had in the past. The story of Major John Wesley Powell's exploration f the mighty Colorado River Riv-er Canyons is of great importance im-portance to the history of Southeastern Utah. It would he unfortunate if the obser- , vance of its centennial went unnoticed in Moab the , largest of Southeastern Utah's Ut-ah's communities. |
