Show Per capita income doubled in Grand Figures released by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research of the University of Utah indicate that per capita income for Grand County residents has almost doubled since 1971. The most recent figures, for 1976, show that the average per capita income in Grand County for 1971 was $3135, but that this figure jumped to $6103 in 1976. Total earnings for the county during that time rose from $15 million to $28 million. By far the biggest increase in earnings was in construction which rose from $531,000 in 1971 to $5 million in 1976. Wholesale trade also experienced exper-ienced a large increase, from $541,000 to almost $2'. million Mining also showed a substantial increase, from S3'j million in 1971 to just over 86 million in 1976. The only drop in earnings was in the field of manufacturing, down from $943,000 in 1971 to $590,000 in 1976. In the government sector, the largest jump in income occurred among federal employees. The federal payroll in Grand County rose from $477,000 in 1971 to just over $1 million in 1976. It is likely that most of this increase resulted from the addition of employees to area offices. During the same time period, state and local government earnings went from $1,908,000 to $2,723,000. In terms of percentage of total earnings provided by various industries, mining continued to grow relative to other sectors in the state, accounting for 4.1 per cent of total earnings in 1971 and 4.8 per cent in 1976. Mining's earnings increased in all of Utah's counties with relatively important mining sectors, except in Grand County, which dropped from 23.2 per cent in 1971 to 22.3 per cent in 1976. The largest increase in percentage percent-age of total income within Grand County between 1971 an 1976 was in construction, which rose from 5.5 per cent to 18.2 per cent of total county earnings. |
