The w omen also hold relief society in the same building on Wednesdays. The LDS have started" a very active ward here in Castle Valley. They have accomplished a lot and have helped the community commun-ity in many ways. They not only help those who are sick and unable to do their own work, but also provide wholesome activities activi-ties for the community. They invite all to come to w hatever activity they have. The youth programs are also sponsering scouts for the children interested. interest-ed. Most of the scouts are of the cub scout age now, but with growth the other scout troops will be formed. Jack Cluff is heading the boys activities and Chris Ricketts and Mrs. Wikner are over the girls. Mr. Stucki says the papers of the proposed building to house the church are being looked over now and as soon as they are approved the work will be started. A lot of the financial help will come from the wards of the Moab chapter. They have a 5 acre lot picked out as the proposed sight. The building will not take up the whole 5 acres though and a proposed activity ground is also planned and possibly a small orchard. Some of the activities that have been organized by this group this summer consisted of a parade and other activities for Mor-man Mor-man day and a spook alley for Halloween. The primary pri-mary class has also made a quilt, although the relief society quilted it and put it together. The quilt is unique in that each student made their own , block with a color crayon I effect which was later set . in the material; then each block was set in an i orange-yellow calico print , background. They plan on saving the quilt as a souvenir. They also have taken a lot of trips to the , mountains to learn skills of camping. The LDS group has had a lot of fun organizing , these activities and hope , to help the community with their activities of the future as well. A meeting was held at Hersel Nokes Saturday night. Things discussed were road maintenance, the creek crossing, the shooting of guns, speeders speed-ers on the road and housing requirements. The square footage required re-quired for a house was changed from 1200 sq. ft. to 1000 sq. ft. Septic tanks were also discussed. Hersel also commented last week that we are going to have to get an ordinance concerning dogs. We just have too many dogs running around that need to be home. Alice McKinney did get her house put together before cold weather with the help of Al Duncan and our valley plumber, Bill Headen. Bob Deglas came to get Earl Hotz to blast a big rock. Earl sent him home with hand drilling tools and Bob drilled the holes but the weather was bad and Earl didn't make it up to do the blasting. The holes filled with water and the rock broke to pieces without the blasting. That just shows that things can be accomplished without modern machines. It just takes a little longer. The Fred Officer family didn't have such good luck. By mistake they fed some mercury treated grain to their animals and are having to destroy them all. The week ended well with the storm bringing more moisture. We don't have snow on the ground in the valley yet but the rims have an accent of white and the mountains are just beautiful. It is reported that we had over an inch of rain o Saturday. |
