Show School opening sef here Aug. 23 Grand County schools will open their doors to students on Wednesday, Aug. 23, it was announced this week by Superintendent Superin-tendent Bill B. Meador. Grand teachers will arrive a couple of days earlier Aug. 21, to prepare for the coming of students. Full details of registration for those who are not pre-registered will be published next week. And, prior to the start of school, bus schedules will be detailed in The Times-Independent. Supt. Meador stated this week that eleven new staff people have been employed to fill vacated positions and to increase the force to meet new reduced class-load requirements of the state. Enrollment, Enroll-ment, however, is a big question mark in the district, and staff adjustments may have to be made after school begins. "We know a lot of new homes have been built and a lot of new families have moved here during the summer," Mr. Meador stated. "We have also noted, however, that a number of homes have been sold and we don't know what our out-migration will do to the total enrollment. At any rate, it appears that some increases will be noted over last year's ending enroll ment," he concluded. Only one position remains to be filled, and Mr. Meador is hopeful of filling that special education position before the beginning of school. School remodeling and annual summer cleanup is rapidly nearing completion and Mr. Meador stated that the plant would be ready to use on Aug. 21. New families moving to the area who have questions concerning concer-ning the beginning of school are welcome to visit the District Offices at 264 South 4th East, where work by staff members has continued throughout the summer. |
