The group of 30 boys and six leaders are in their fifth week of an eight week .expedition in the Four Corners Cor-ners states. , Headquarters for Prairie Trek Expeditions is at Thor-e.m. Thor-e.m. New exico a few miles east of Gallup, where their base camp is situated on the Continental Divide. Since 19?0 Prairie Trek Expeditions has been taking boys throughout he southwest as part of an out-of-door educational and raveling laboratory. The ISO boys and six loaders camped at Warner War-ner Lake this week where they hunted hunt-ed for rocks and climbed a few peaks of the La Sals. and then went into Arizona where they visited Sonora Desert Museum and Snguaro National Monument at Tucson. Tuc-son. They I hen swung around ar-ound into New Mexico again ag-ain to While Sands. Santa Ft. Taos and crossed the border into Colorado. They took a float trip down the Arkansas River out Of Sal-ida Sal-ida on air mattresses and then continued on west to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. After going thru the DurangoSilverton area, the campers came on to Mo-ab. Mo-ab. Truck problems kept them here a few days longer than expected but the boys took advantage of the outdoor adventures ad-ventures that can he had in the canyon country. An underlying purpose pf the Prairie Trek Expeditions Expedi-tions is to provide rich educational ed-ucational experiences to qualified qual-ified boys. For the eight weeks of their long journey they study basic camping iskills, nature and environ (mental features of many different' areas, archaeology land rocks. They also collect col-lect specimens under the (guidance of college professors profes-sors and meet with staff .specialists for reports and discussions. It's actually a school on wheels and their laboratory is the wide open ispaces of the Four Corners. |
