Announcement of Secretary Wall's itinerary was made in Moab this week by Bates K. Wilson, superintendent of f.iiivoiilands National Park, , ( who met with Mr, I'dall in Washington last week to work out details of the visit. Also with the I'dall party, which will total fifteen, will be I'tah Senator Frank E, Moss, or-vin.il or-vin.il sponsor of the Canyon -lands bill, and sponsor of the Litest bill to enlarge the park. A small private reception . 1 3r.d dinner will honor the Secretary and his party at i.'e Desert Inn at 7:39 p.m. Sunday, stated Mr. Wilson, following which the group will view the Interior Department's Depart-ment's film on Caryonlands, The Sculptured Earth," in order to gain background and orientation on the week's travel activities. ( On Monday, Aug. 5. according ac-cording to Mr. Wilson, the party will leave via four-wheel-drive vehicles for Barrier Bar-rier Canyon near the Green River Desert a proposed addition to the park which contains spectacular life-size pictographs. Cainpout the first night out of Moab will be at Panorama Point. On Tuesday the group will go down the Flint Trail to the north end of the Maze, and will spend two days hiking down into the varied canyons can-yons making up the Maze section. They will travel on around to the Doll House, and inspect in-spect other features in the area immediately west of the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers all of which are being considered for inclusion in Canyonlands. The Udall group will arrive ar-rive back in Moab on Saturday,- August 111, and will spend one day here. The next day the Secretary and his party will leave Moab with veteran river runner. Jack Currey of Salt Lake City to explore the river canyons downstream from Moab. Mr. Udall plans to be in northern Utah, possibly by August 14th. according to Mr. Wilson, to attend the opening ceremonies for the Goldeii Spike Centennial, and will remain in the state until August 18th, when he is scheduled to deliver the commencement address at -Utah State University. |
