Show Incumbent Commisioners Seeking Reelection, as Political Season Opens The political filing period for this fall's elections got off to an active start in Moab this week with the filing of both incumbent Grand county Commissioners for reelection to office. Commission Chairman Ralph F "';v -i k "' f ; i Ralph J. Miller, Sr. J. Miller, Sr., and Commissioner Commis-sioner Mars Pope, currently serving four and two year terms, respectively, filed for reelection Monday, according to Barbara Domenick, county-clerk. county-clerk. Both are Republicans. This year's election will see Mars Pope activity all up and down the ballot, with the race for United Unit-ed States Senate topping the local list, right under the presidential candidates and then- running mates. Senator Wallace F. Bennett, three-term three-term Republican solon, will be defending his seat. Sen. Bennett has not yet filed for office, but has indicated he would. Utah's Democratic Governor, Gover-nor, Calvin L. Rampton is also al-so expected to file for reelection reelec-tion to that post, although there has been some speculation specula-tion that he might seek Sen. Bennett's seat. Republican Congressman, Laurence J. Burton will be seeking relection to the U. S. House .of Representatives this year. He is serving in his third term in the House. Other state offices which will be filled at the November Novem-ber election are State Auditor, State Treasurer, Secretary of State, and Attorney General. One Justice of the Supreme Court will be elected this fall, and the office of District Attorney At-torney will also be balloted on. The four-county State Senate Sen-ate seat now held by Sen. Samuel J. Taylor of Moab will be filled at the polls. Sen. Taylor has stated he would not be a candidate for reelection. reel-ection. Rep. Ralph Preece of Vernal has already announced for the race. The district involves in-volves Grand,, Emery, Uintah Uin-tah and Daggett counties. The two-county Utah House of Representatives seat now held by Rep. Edward Drake will also be listed on the ballot. bal-lot. Rep. Drake has not yet filed his candidacy for reelection, reel-ection, but has stated that h intended to seek reelection ' Locally, two members of the Grand county Commission will face oncomers this fall. The State School Board sect now held by President Sheldon Shel-don Allred of Price, will also be decided. Grand county is in a multi-county district for that seat. Filing deadline for prospective prospec-tive candidates is May 10 this year. Persons interested in becoming candidates should file with the Grand county clerk, unless they are seeking candidacy to a multi-county district, in which case they must file with' the Secretaii of State.
