Show Outlook Bright for Meal) Continuing Education Ctr. Prospects are bright for the establishment of a center for continuing education in Moab beginning in 1969, C. Robert Sundwall, superintendent of the Grand county School District Dis-trict reported this week. Superintendent Sundwall and Bill Meador, assistant superintendent, super-intendent, met with Dr. Kent Fielding, director of continuing contin-uing education for Utah, and Dr. Lloyd Drury, Utah Stale University, at Salt Lake City last week. "Our request that a continuing contin-uing education center be established es-tablished at Monb was well received, even enthusiastical ly," Superintendent Sundwall stated. : A program for continuing education would provide col- , lege courses in Moab us'ng the facilities of the local schools. Professors from Utah universities, would come to Moab to teach regular colleg? courses. j "It is quite likely that as many as fen college credit courses could be offered dur- ing the year. They would be available to adults or anyone ' after graduating from high ', school," Mr. Sundwall said. The support of Moab and (Continued on Page A-3) 1 1 CONTINUING EDUCATION (Continued) (Continued from Page 1) surrounding areas is necessary neces-sary for the program to be established, es-tablished, he stated. A committee com-mittee of local residents will be appointed soon to form the nucleus from which total community com-munity support will be sought. "There is but one other center cen-ter in Utah located in Duchesne Du-chesne county and this was established only after the residents of that area conducted con-ducted their unified efforts for the program," the superintendent superin-tendent stated, adding, "Dr. Fielding and Dr. Drury emphasized em-phasized the necessity of this in order to obtain the neces- t sary financing." "If this community interest can be obtained, and if we find there are sufficient people peo-ple wanting the college courses, cours-es, we should have little difficulty dif-ficulty in getting the center," he concluded. Efforts of the Grand county coun-ty Board of Education to provide pro-vide educational opportunit-' ies for the whole area are al-; so aimed for the establishment establish-ment of a vocational education educa-tion center. Mr. Meador recently rec-ently met with state officials concerning this possibility and plans are now going forward for formal application. This center would serve adults as well as high school students. |
