C Cleveland Ohio is for the bo boy who is entering college or even high school When Robert graduated from high school his father like Jike rost American fathers could see his dreams come true in that his hison hison hison on was now ready rendy to go o to college But to Robert college was a series of dances football games lots lotsI I f t pretty girls girls' sport coats and bow ties His llis dad r with him the seriousness of life Ufe and pointed out w what at in jn his pinion opinion he would accomplish f by spending the next four lour years in further 4 Just as many other inexperienced young joys Robert let those words of wisdom go in one fir pr and ou out the other You can well imagine the difficulties he encountered scholastically lIe He says le e and the Dean became very well acquainted Carnegie The following March he recel received vet a phone call caU from Crom home informing him that his father had just met with a VCr very verj serious accident He left school and went home Within a week hi his rather father passed away and Robert was left with an older brothel and his mother He took a job in a foundry as a laborer and a months of hard work made him realize reaUze that possibly his lathe fathe did have something in trying to offer him the advantages of college col lege training He lie still stUl retained tho the fear that he was not given the mental ability to master the hg work in college but he decided thai tha there was only one way for him to find out whether he was capa ble of getting a college education If It he could do this on a time part basis going to school at night he could fight filM his fear and would be able to determine w whether ether he was actually able to cope ope with such advanced tion With this thought iq in mind h ha took a freshman course in col lege mathematics and much to his surprise he was able with c z little work to o pass Ss s this course without any difficulties He lIe took another courte T Fn freshman chemistry and again he passed with witha a 11 rating well above average He Ile then felt he ht had sufficient confidence confidence ence in his ability to pass pus any course offered in college With wan this confidence and deep desire desh to obtain a college degree he left his job as a laborer in a foundry and enrolled in a day college with confidence He lie achieved achieve t his fathers father's ambition for him but he is telling this to forestall if possible the great waste of a young mans man's time and a n fathers father's money that occur when a freshman doesn't realize reaUze how fortunate he Is b to have a lather father to toot foot his college bills |
