Show wool growers meet tha annual meeting of the san juan Wool growers association was held at blanding january 4 visitors present were supervisor folster rangers hunt and christensen Chrls ernest weber of montrose colorado and noel preas vernal utah the latter two gentlemen represented the national cooperative wool marketing association several question of major importance concerning the wool industry such as stock driveways predatory animal control regulation of the public domain and enforcement of quarantine laws came in for considerable discussion A rough draft of representative collons coltons public domain bill was read and the meeting went on record favoring such a apropo officers for the ensuing year were elected after which weber and preas touched briefly on the conditions of the wool market marooned after spending a wonderful day at I 1 blanding basking in the warm sunshine of a southern clime weber preas folster and christensen Chrls started tor monticello leaving blanding about 7 30 p m roads were in splendid shape until they reached devil canyon immediately after crossing this canyon they encountered a terrible blizzard snow was drifting so badly that before they had gone scarcely three miles they were stranded abandoning the cars they walked to verdure under rather unpleasant conditions they received very fine accommodations at verdure and spent the remainder of the night there upon returning to their cars next morning they found them practically snowed under only the tops being visible drifts tour and live feet deep between verdure and the cars were formed during the night and several hundred yards long precipitation records the precipitation recorded at the monticello weather station for the past four years was as follows 1928 1841 in 1929 1293 in 1930 1705 in 1931 16 04 in making a four year average precipitation of 1612 inches up to december 31 57 inches of snow hid fallen at monticello this winter this should be somewhat comparable to conditions on the la sal mountains at elevations of feet winter range conditions reports from representative stock men are to the effect that sheep and cattle are doing pretty well on the range to date sheep encountered some trouble on mceacken McK acken mesa south of blanding where they were snowed in for a few days however at present they are doing fair cattle were drawn up somewhat during tho cold snap in early winter but are doing better now some losses we reported but nothing out of the ordinary |
