Show COUNTY WILL START EMERGENCY I 1 FLOOD protection ON MILL CREEK LAUNCHED AS MEASURE FUNDS i appropriated EI the construction of cribbing along the banks of mill creek south of moab to protect the town from flood dangers will be undertaken at once by grand county and the grand county school district in order to aid in the unemployment distress and at the same time carry out a worthy project that will protect many thousands of dollars worth of public and private property this was decided at a meeting of county commissioners held monday and tuesday the county will appropriate for the purpose and the school district will expend stance from the county library board the town of moab and private parties has also been promised present at the meeting of the county board were commissioners H G green A M robertson and B E buchanan sheriff J B attorney C S thomson and clerk H W balsley the meeting was one of the most important held by the board in many months and numerous matters of importance were attended to the question of the proposed improvement pro on mill creek which has long been recognized as an urgent need to protect the town from flood danger was gone into from every angle and an investigation on the ground was made by the commissioners and engineer H J nielsen it was finally to appropriate to 1 bemused in conjunction with a from the school district land other funds expected to be contributed tri buted by the county library board violab town and various individuals emed the commissioners decided that the unemployment committee f the moab lions club be authorized 0 appoint a qualified person to take charge of the work on mill areek and that the same committee designate the men who will be given on the project and the or ier in which they shall be employed it being understood that those men r most in need of financial assistance be given the first opportunity to work wages specified are 3 per day for a man and G per day for man and team A letter was received from mrs thinnie W miller agent of the central union life insurance company owners of the gateway rach in lower moab valley regarding a right of way for the new federal aid project leading into moab town mrs miller ot to sell the right of way hotalling totalling acres for the county and state to construct fences around the tract this proposition was accepted A deal was made with dale M occupant of the ranch whereby he will construct the fences and furnish all materials for the board discussed a resolution passed by the moab lions club wherein it was requested that the county cooperate with the state and government in continuing the oil processing of the new road from the moab city limits to the colorado river bridge the resolution set out a number of substantial reasons why this additional work should be done while the project Is under construction inasmuch as county funds are being drawn on heavey af this time tor rights of way and other expenses in connection with the road project the commissioners decided to hold the matter in abeyance until such time as it could be ascertained certa ined from the state as to what its attitude would be and the probable cost of the additional oiling th annual report of the commissioner of the poor showing expenditures during 1931 of as compared with a total of 3 85 in 1930 was read and adopted the clerk was authorized to issue all county licenses now due the appointment of H S rutledge a probation officer of grand county a salary of per month was ratified A tetter was received from the state tax commission wherein that body offered to send one or more men to grand county to work with the county assessor in revaluation work the pro attal was accepted and the clerk was instructed to ascertain from the state board when the services of one man elgh be available for this work i all taxing officers of grand county were authorized to attend a state convention of county officials to be held at salt lake city february 4 and 5 the request of E M gordon for the appropriation of 75 for the construction of a trail from the dolores river to cisco which he stated would lessen the distance by 15 miles was not granted at this time due to a shortage of funds |
