| Show AND TO several citizens of grand and san juan counties this week received telegrams from governor georgo dem asking their regarding a pro pasal of the department of interior to add a considerable of land in southern san juan county to the navajo indian reservation the area in question lies south of the san juan river and between the meridian and the colorado river congressman don B colton wired governor dem that he had been requested by the interior department to introduce bill in congress proposing the addition of athe land to the reservation and he requested the governor to wire recommendations ions before doing so mr dern Is conferring with southeastern utah people regarding the matter I 1 it la understood that the proposal Is being opposed generally by local 1 people the land in question known as the plute strip Is used extensively as an emergency winter range by san I 1 juan county stockmen stoc kmen it is pointed out that the marajo indians already have ample range for their needs it Is further argued that the area south of the san juan river Is a famous I 1 scenic country and its addition to the reservation might interfere with the building of roads to the natural bridges and other places of interest |
