Show LOCAL legislators ATTEND SANTA FE MEET IV D HAMMOND OF GRAND A CHAS REDD OF SAN JUAN MEMBERS OF BOULDER daa DAM 11 COMMITTEE representatives W D hammond of grand county and charles redd of san juan county were on tuesday appointed with four other members ot of the utah legislature to attend the conference at santa fe N M which has been called to dise discuss cuss the boulder dam bill and other matters in connection with the colorado river project they left tuesday evening with the committee tor for santa fe the complete committee consists of senator A B 13 irvine republican floor leader and senator wilson mccarthy democratic floor leader of the upper house and representatives louis J holther Holt ber charles redd W 11 D hammond and I 1 A smoot W R wallace colorado river commissioner tor for utah accompanied the committee 40 0 ao o santa fe decision to send a delegation to the santa pe fe meetings was reached by the legislature tuesday following a joint session which was addressed by governor george H dem the governor reiterated the recommendations made by him to the legislature in his message at the beginning of the session the six state ratification he said would give utah imperfect protection and would result in litigation which would cause delay the way to hurry boulder dam is to use best efforts to obtain seven state ratification he declared and the project cannot be hastened by going into the six state compact before california does the governor urged the legislature to await the outcome of the santa fe conference and said he was not in favor at present of dewey and flaming gorge amendments to the swing johnson bill w V 44 mr wallace also spoke at the joint session urging both houses to send delegations to santa fe he declared that the best legal minds in both houses should attend the santa fe meetings the meetings at santa fe will be held by arizona california and nevada to see it if arizona cannot be pur to enter the seven state compact committee will attend he the sessions in an informal capacity for or the purpose of gathering informs fon on as to the lower states desires in agard regard to colorado river development the committee will attempt to reconcile the differences of the various states to the end that seven state ratification may be had what action the utah legislature takes on the colorado river project will probably follow the recommendations of its santa fe committee |
