Show ROAD SAFETY STRESSED IN commission REPORT importance of doing everything possible to increase the safety of travel on the highways of the state Is stressed on the biennial report of the state road commission for the period ended june 30 1928 it Is pointed out by the report that many miles of road were built and are still in use which were not intended to accommodate the character and volume of traffic which they now must carry in order to make the possibility of accidents as small as possible the report declared every effort Is being made by state highway organizations and the united states bureau of public roads to improve the highways to a high and safe standard As a result of this effort radical changes have taken place in the design and standards of highway construction and in the maintenance requirements in keeping the roads in safe condition in expensive mileage of canyon roads of high standard that have been built or now are under construction the report declared the mileage costs are increased by many thousands of dollars in securing width sight distance and gradients that are considered important factors in highway safety |
