Show GRAND COUNTY the eighteenth utah legislature which adjourned last friday accomplished some beneficial legislation but a number of measures passed which were extremely advised in the opinion of W D hammond grand county s representative who returned to moab sunday from attending the session mr hammond was honored at the session by being made his party s candidate for speaker of the house he was also chosen as a member of the utah committee to attend the tri state conference on the boulder dam compact held at santa fe N M mr hammond Is of the belief that made a serious mistake in ratifying the six state compact he submitted to the house an adverse report on the compact on his return from santa fe and led the fight against ratification when the measure came up for final action the compact carried by a small majority mr hammond feels that utah should have delayed action until such time as provision was made in the boulder dam development whereby this state would derive some benefit As the matter stands the lower basin state will receive all the benefits from the gigantic development project representative hammond was also strongly opposed to the jorgensen measure which would amend the constitution ution in order to permit the legislature to classify property for taxation he feels that this resolution if approved by the voters would give the legislature too much authority in the matter of taxation mr hammond has promised to write an article on the work of the eighteenth legislature for publication in next week s times independent grand county citizens will be greatly interested in getting his view regarding the accomplishments of the session |
