| Show representative REDD TO SEEK STATE AID GOVERNOR DERN STRONGLY FAVORS PROJECT representative charles redd of san juan county will introduce at an early date a bill in the legislature asking for a state appropriation of to construct a road to the natural bridges in a letter to the times independent mr redd states that governor george II 11 dem is strongly in favor of the tin and the prospects are favorable for securing its approval providing the people of southeastern utah get behind the project and bring every possible pressure to bear the amount to be asked will make the road reasonably passable mr redd writes 1 I feel certain that after we make it possible for tourists to reach these monuments they will be effective in helping us to secure help from the federal government to make a good highway on account of the advantage that may come in the development of oil lands west of the elk mountains we should get some support from the people interested in that enterprise twenty five thousand dollars is small in comparison to the money spent by the state in southwestern utah for scenic purposes if we can secure the active support of the salt lake chamber ol 01 commerce we should succeed in se curing this appropriation I 1 took the matter up with the governor some time ago and he is strongly in favor of such an appropriation representative redd states the san juan legislator is anxious to have grand county people coop co op erate with the southern county in soliciting the aid of the salt lake in teresta te rests and he suggests that steps be taken at once to bring the matter before the salt lake chamber mr redd is anxious that the matter be started at once so as to have it considered early in the session A air start towards a road to the natural bridges has already been made the people of Bland mg with san juan countes coun tys assistance have built a road into the elk mountains over which cars are able to pass the midwest exploration company now drilling for oil in the elks has further improved the highway to such an extent that large trucks arc able to make the trip to th el location with load of macheers mach mers it is figured that en additional appropriation pria tion of 25 judiciously expended will extend a payable load to the bridges the matter 13 of vital import Anco to all of southeastern utah and it Is to be hoped that the business interests of this section will get behind representative redd in the fight for the bill |
