| Show LIVE SHOWING OF GAS ai OIL AT BIG SIX WELL TEST ON 10 ANTI CLINE WILL RUN CASING BEFORE DRILLING DEEPER the big six well on moab anticline three miles west of town being drilled by the embar oil company has developed a strong showing of gas at a depth of feet the hole 13 buttoned a rich lime shale which has shown increased gas for the past ten days this morning the increase had become so marked that it was decided to run the 3 12 1 2 inch casing which is on the location feet of inhale has been cut without a break of salt and this indicates oilmen say that the salt plug the edge of which this well has been drilling has been passed since the of es the feet of open hole has again started to cave and it has been decided by officials of the company fo run the small pipe four excellent showings of oil were encountered in this well two of which it is said would undoubtedly have proved of commercial volume had it been possible to get a water shutoff As the caving horizon around 2400 feet is again showing signs of raveling no chances will be taken of losing another possible oil producing stratum the hole is now dry a shutoff of water having been effected some time ago the feet of shale penetrated on bottom has shown a considerable oil content and the bail ings from the last few feet of hole drilled have given off a akum of live oil the big six well is the pioneer test of the colorado river folds and it was largely due to the log of this well that the midwest and associated companies entered the field the big six well was studded in in being drilled to a depth of 2800 feet under the supervision of F W strong manager of the big six omi pany after a two year shutdown the well was salvaged last r spring by the embar oil company and under the supervision of john tannahill Tann phill has been carried on down another feet since the recent strike of oil at the frank shafer no 1 well on cane creek dome six miles south of the big six location three of the larger oil companies have become interested in the outcome of the test among these being the utah oil refining company drilling resumed at J II 11 shafer drilling has been resulted ted at the i J II 11 shafer no 1 well on shafer dome by the midwest utah south ern utah oil refining companies the mud was baided bailed from the hole r saturday and sunday but the stratum at feet which blew in as a gasser several weeks ago failed to flow any iria tenal amount of gas the gas had been making from a shale formation it is apparent that the gas came either through a frac ture from sand on the flanks of the structure the fracture becoming sealed off by the mud or the gas was L of origin and soon exhaust ed itself drilling was resumed and 1 at feet the drill entered a salt I 1 bed the depth today was feet operations will be resumed in a few daya on the frank shafer no discovery well the string of 4 3 4 inch seamless casing which will be run to near bottom at feet to test the productive stratum at that depth is expected to reach thomp sons within a week and will dimmed lately be transported to the well well will be started up this week in advance of the arrival of the casing when an effort will be made to clean out the the well will b kept filled with mud until the casing is set on bot toral A small stream of oil continues to flow through the mud |
