Show B.D.A.A. FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp BDAA Hoop Scores Close First round of the second half of the BDAA basketball league saw some fast and interesting games. Bingham Merchants, first half champs, ran up a 53 to 32 count on the reckless Redskins, with Beck sinking 17 points and J. Kallen 11, to lead the winners onslaught. The Merchants are yet undefeated and hope to repeat re-peat their first half performance. Manson, Frank and Belogody were best scorers for the Reds. Riverton Motors won a thrilling thrill-ing 34 to 33 game from Copper-field, Copper-field, with R. McFarlane dunking dunk-ing 10, and Groves 6. Grossman scored 9 for the losers, with the two Leyba boys and Vigil, garnering gar-nering 6 apiece. Several large, new additions to the Motormen squad will carry a lot of weight the rest of second half play. Ask the boys who played 'em. In another thriller, Independents Independ-ents and Frogtown battled neck and neck all the way, with the Independent crew eking out a 2 point win. The winners led at half time 16-13, and came from behind in the final seconds to win 37-35. Blockovich with 14, and Rudy Pino with 9, led the Indies offense. P. Montoya and Niksich scored 12 and 10 for the losers. In the final game, Tooele edged edg-ed away from Bird's Beauty Salon Sal-on in the last half to win 52-39. Ence and Fernau did most ol Tooele's scoring with 23 and 15 points respectively. P. Peterson, V. Peterson and J. Bernardo led the Salon drive with 12-9-8. So, like the old army game, we had 4 winners and 4 losers, and the boys will battle again next Monday at the Gemmell court to stay ahead or regain the choice spot in this highly interesting inter-esting hoop league. Preps Take Loop Crown! Bingham high Miners gained a spot in the Utah B basketball tourney last Friday with a convincing con-vincing 53-27 win over Judge Memorial. Sanchez, Gust and Gaythwaite couldn't be stopped, and gave the locals the league crown, as they have only one game to go, that at Murray tonight. to-night. Coach Allsop's boys have displayed some very fine ball this campaign, despite lack of experience and some spots of over-eagerness. If the boys play the brand of ball they are capable cap-able of, they should make a good showing in the B tourney. Anyway, Any-way, will try and be there rooting root-ing for a fine bunch of boys, win or lose. |
