FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp Amateur Baseball To Stage Comeback BDAA to sponsor team in Salt Lake Amateur Federation loop At a recent meeting with the officials of-ficials of the Salt Lake County recreation program and a special meeting of the BDAA board of governors, it was decided by the association to sponsor a team in the amateur circuit. A great deal of interest has been stirred up locally on this subject, and it was felt the need of such a move was urgent and desireable. Bingham District Athletic association, as-sociation, in order to equip and maintain a creditable club in this league will need a great deal of help, not only from members but all interested businesses and organizations. or-ganizations. To bring the young fellows of our community a chance to continue baseball and to fill a much needed want for top recreation, our town should get behind this action all the way. Bingham has produced, year after year, the outstanding prep nines in the state. We feel sure you want to see these boys get their chance to keep on with their abilities. As soon as a suitable manager has been appointed, the call for workouts will be issued to all baseball aspirants. Every effort will be made by the BDAA to create a strong ball club and if possible to have home games at Copperton. The entry of a Bingham team in the amateur circuit is a step toward revival of the world's finest sport in America's finest sport town, so let's bend every effort toward making it a success. suc-cess. Softball League Rounds Into Form With perhaps six teams already al-ready entered- and rarin' to go, the BDAA Softball league is fast rounding into shape for the '48 race. Team entry deadline is May 1st. Any teams not entered and wishing to do so, please contact Herb Babcock before that date. The BDAA squad can finish in third spot in this circuit and by doing so, can feel they have done very well their first season in this tough competition. compe-tition. Last week the Travellers took 3 of 4 from second place Brunswick Bruns-wick crew who have such stars as Bill Ward, Doc Mason, Hugo Ensign, McPhie and Pusey on their line up. o |
