A Harriman chairman of the Union Pacific board of directors and he told old me it is his ambition for local Idaho people to become expert skiers ski- ski ers era rs and perhaps qualify as instructors instruct- instruct ors rs at Sun Valley said Rutledge The sports setup at Sun Valley Valleys is s really remarkable For skiing they hey have three lifts near the lodges which are ample when snow is plen- plen But in the early fall and late spring pring when there is not much sn snow now w it is necessary to go higher and nd farther to find suitable ski runs The he Union Pacific has purchased light ight tractors which go on top of the he snow and pull large sleds carrying carrying carry- carry ing ng 23 persons up 39 to 40 per cent grades Through cooperation with the he forest service these are used on hills in the Sawtooth forest in seasons when snow is scarce at Sun Valley The result is a lengthening of the skiing season
