Show AV8WSBS BVtaJkMD. Auguet S, 1911. To the Editor of Salt Lak . Evnin Telegram, city. Sir.- In yonr issue of yesterday yon qwoted the Rev. F. W. Bueaard as referring re-ferring to Christian 8einee nd th teaehings of ita discoverer and founder, Marv Baker Eddy, aa a "pcis of insanity in-sanity and modern witchcraft." I am sure no haa don thi under misapprehension misap-prehension ef what thoee teachings are, for had he realized that the teachings of Chriatian Science are baaed entirely entire-ly on the teaehings of Christ Jesus he would have hesitated to classify them as "inaanit" or witchcraft.1 Mrs. Eddy write en page 269 and IM ef her work, "Science and Health":-"! therefore plant myself unreservedly en the teaehings of Jesna, of his apostles, of th prophets" "And I hav found nothing In ancient or in . g modern systems on which to found my own, xcpt the teaching and demonstration demon-stration of onr great Master, and th lives of prophet' and apostle." Chriatian Science is teaching that it is possible for man to obey the eom-mand eom-mand of Jesus in ita entirety and not only preach tb gospel, but to heal the sick and eaat out devils, for did he not say that "he that believeth en me, the work that I do shall h do also V' Is it then th doing of th works that is "witchcraft" or "inaanityf" Surely not, for I am sure onr critic would not for a moment anggest that Jesus worked through witchcraft end Chriatian Chria-tian Scientists are but humbly endeavoring endeav-oring to follow, in the steps of their blessed Maiter and obey hi commands. It will be remembered that th Master Mas-ter taught hia disciples the means by which they could tell the difference between be-tween the wolves in sheep's clothing and those who came ia the Father nam. H said "and then signs shall follow them that believe" and "there, fore by their fruite ye eball knew them." Chriatian Scientists can hardly therefore merit the appellation of ravening rav-ening wolve. if they are endeavoring, by understanding the teaching of Christ Jesus, to prove that understanding understand-ing by their fruits in signs following. Respectfully, W. A. TYLER, Christian Science Publication Committee Commit-tee for State of Utah. , |
