Th military mili-tary valu of th cavalry branch has been enormously increased by the adoption of wireless telegraphy, for the first time in thi country thoroughly tried out in th Texaa maneuvers. Th signal corps bad devised an extremely ex-tremely light and portable wireless apparatus ap-paratus easily earned oa the back of a horse and capable of being put into operation from any point in the Meld within a few minutes. It was found that the message could be reliably received re-ceived when tbe cavalry detachment wa anywhere within twenty 6ve miles of a receiving station, a fact which added greatly to the value of the cavalry cav-alry in it scouting rapacity. A light collapsible t mast, not much larger than a fishing rod, served to support the antennae necessary to establish communication. |
